What was your first car like?

  1. My first car was a 4 year old tan 4-door Chevy Chevette that I had to share with my brother who was a year younger than me. It was 1986, the year I started my senior year of high school. It came with the steering wheel and AM radio. One week after we got it, my brother got into a fender bender and the ins. co. wouldn't pay because it was his fault. So it was ugly AND banged up. And we were soooooo very glad to have it. I understand that some kids now are driving luxury SUVs to school. Nice.

My husband's first car was a Dodge Shadow that he purchased sight unseen while he was overseas through some program in the military. It didn't have air conditioning. We picked it up from the dealer and then moved to El Paso, Texas the next week. You know El Paso, the desert? That summer they had a 10-day stretch of 100+ degree temps. No air conditioner. Nice.

But you could fill that sucker up for 8 dollars. Really nice.

When I was in high school my step-dad bought a Triumph and I learned to drive a stick in our arena. It was supposed to be mine someday. He unfortunately died.

I bought my first car after two years of going to college on the bus. I saved up $600 and bought a Chevy Vega. Brown mustard yellow.

    My husband's first car was a 67 Camero . . . . :hatparty:

An old beat up Toyota that just wouldn't die, until my brother high on drugs drove it into a ditch. I hated that car.

Holy smokes, my mother used to drive a yellow Chevy Vega. And when that died she went and bought a powder blue one.

Too funny! Who knew that your brother wrecking a car could be a good thing?

Dh and I purchased our first car (and it was, really, my first car) the first year we were married: an orange Honda Civic, with white stripe on the side. Stick shift. Manual windows. We got good gas mileage!

My first car ever was a Toyota Camry. I loved that car, too!

OOPS! I just remembered that I had a used buick of some sort that I traded in for my Toyota Camry that I loved so much. :uhoh21:

In 1991, or 1992, Mom bought me a brand new 1991 Ford Festiva to get me back and forth to college my Freshman year....she even had the car dealer put a big red bow on it when we went to pick it up. LOL Problem with that was, it was a standard. I didn't know how to drive a standard!!! It took me months to get the nerve to drive it farther than around the neighborhood....where I knew there wasn't any hills :chuckle (BTW, I still HATE standards!)

Well, it served its purpose. I just really like trucks!

My first car was an '81 Buick Regal I got the year I graduated high school 1989. I was proud of how "petite" my car was compared to my parent's cars; a 1978 Cadillac Coupe DeVille and a 1978 Delta 88. They were boats compared to my car. Dad believed in putting a lot of car between his little girl and any other cars. It wasn't in bad shape when I got it, everything worked including cruise control and A/C. By the time I got rid of it in 1994 it was not dead but very close, guzzling oil, A/C out, healiner falling (I stapled it up giving it a "draped" effect"), transmission slipping out all the time, brakes about to give out (again), paint in horrible horrible shape, oh, and someone stole the hood ornament off of it!! But at least my car didn't have roaches like my little brothers!!

I got rid of it to get a brand new 1994 Ford Taurus, I really liked my new car, drove it until 2 years ago. It then became the first car for my then 16 yr old step-daughter. In two years she's worn it out like I wore out my old Regal. When she complains about it, my husband regale her with much sadder stories of our first vehicles (the Taurus isn't really in that bad of shape).

Mine was a 1950 Opal Rekord (made in Germany). Stick, so that's what I learned to drive. I named it 'Prudence Elizabeth Louise'.

Died in nursing school. I bought a '63 Buick Special, dark green convertible. That was in Camden, NJ; if it was >50, I put the top down, even if I had to run the heater @ the same time. That one was 'Jennifer Katherine Patricia". I sold it to buy a ticket [one way] to San Diego.

my first car was an 86 buick skylark with teal sparkle paint! I thought I was stylin and because it belted 6 people i was always the driver.... that was cool for about 2 months then i knew the next car i got would be a small uncomfortable backseat so NOBODY would ask for a ride... a couple of years later i got an 88 toyota corrolla stick shift and loved it until it into the ground!

The first one I actually owned was a light blue Gremlin. (so ugly) College grad. gift. Three speed manual.

I actually saw one on the road last week, same color. It has been a few yrs!

Before owning that, it was always some type of Chevy that my sisters and I shared, since my grandpa worked for GM.
