What to make for dinner?

  1. I hate cooking anymore. Usta didn't mind, but now with teenagers, the rolling out the meals, the turned up noses, the not being able to prepare what I like to eat....I am burnt out and fried. Anyone have any suggestions besides order out?

    Hmmm... make what YOU like and tell them to eat it or start helping with the cooking.

    Or get your spouse to take you out and leave left overs for the teenagers.... oh boy am I mean

    Yep, but the hook is that they kids drive 1/2 each way to swimming and they practice for 2 hours-that is like a job (is paying full scholarship for college next year), then comes homework or just down time. They are great kids, but don't have time to cook. And they need like 2400 calories extra at the height of their training. But I love fish and out of the ordinary dishes and they are spaghetti, mashed potatos kids. I did pull some turkey out of the freezer and I will whip up some fettucine with bottled sauce. I just am burntout with cooking. Ackkkkk.

    What kittyw said. Both my parents worked when I was a teenager, and me and my 2 older brothers not only learned to do our own laundry, we learned to cook well enough to at least give my mom a break now and then. We all had our "specialties", too. My oldest brother made the best omelets ever, my older brother made all kinds of crepes and also baked bread; I made a lot of casseroles and the occasional quiche, and sometimes baked bread. We didn't starve.

    Edited to add, all 3 of us were in varsity sports 3 seasons a year, lived 26 miles from our high school, and were honor students. We still had time to help with the cooking sometimes.

    And if they don't have time to help, they can at least not b*tch about what you serve.

    Hear both of you! The problem isn't that they don't cook, though, they do their share of taking care of themselves. It is that I'm burnt out with cooking all these years and I don't know what to make anymore. I really suck too. My meals are like crap. Maybe it is the eat out more syndrome, where you want to eat like how restaurants cook. I need meal ideas! Fast and healthy. My daughter ate my fettucine tonight-w/peas, rolls, cranberries, then she added a big bowl of cereal for dessert. She was still hungry!

    Ask them what they want. Wanting lots of carbs doesn't surprise me w/ all that exercise. Make sure they get multivits, too.

    Post menus, make stuff to freeze ahead if they don't like the 'du jour' offering. Hearty stuff like spaghetti sauce, chili that can be nuked quick. Chili can be served over rice or noodles, and can be made fast w/a mix [don't flame me, all you Texans, it's good and FAST!!] like "Chilio".

    Hamburger Delight

    Serves 4, can be expanded. Maybe just enough for the kids! Serve over rice.

    2 cans cream of mushrom or celery soup. not golden mushroom.
    1# lean ground beef
    garlic and onion powder to taste; s&p
    "Kitchen bouquet" or "Gravy Magic" ~ 2Tbs

    Brown meat, adding s&p, add soup, stir in Kitchen Bouquet.

    Takes 10 mins. Veggie of choice.

    Check out recipezaar.com...Its amazing!!! Every recipe you could ever imagine is there, and in any way you could possibly make it.There are recipes for special diets and everything,it has been a lifesaver for me so many times!!!!

    also check out allrecipes.com. they have alot of recipes that are good! you can choose by method of cooking, cut of meat, etc......

    Don't forget the frozen boneless, skinless chix breasts [or other part]. I'll put as many as I need in a sprayed baking dish, cover w/barbeque sauce or teriyaki "bake and glaze" sauce. Into the oven @ ~ 350-400 x 45 mins, make side dish and veggie.

    how about chicken and rice? mix uncooked rice with heated 1 can craem of mushroom, one can cream of chicken, one can cream of celery, one stick of butter, and 1/2 cup h2o. put small amount of mixture in bottom of casserole dish, place 4 chicken breasts. and cover with remaining mixture. (oh, lightly grease dish) bake at 350 for about an hour and a half. OR brown 4-6 pieces of cube steak covered in peppered flour. in separate pan heat acan of cream of mushroom soup, a can of water and a package of lipton beefy onion soup mix(crush up any big pieces in this prior to mixing). drain meat, then pour mixture over, cover and simmer for 45 minutes. i even like betty crockers instant taters. sour cream and chives is my fav.
