What to do about unfamiliar IMs?

  1. What do you guys do when you are hailed by an unfamiliar IM? If I don't recognize the name I always refuse. However, that has led to me offending a few people I know. The name they use for instant message does not ring a bell so I refuse. I even refused a message from my daughter once, she was going by BigRedW and that sounded suspicious to me so I refused. I told her in the future to email me and tell me about the new name befores she IMs. What do you do?

I refuse IM's from people I do not know or recognize. I think it is courteous to email folks if you change your screen identity so they can accept your pm's without having to wonder. This is just good netiquette.

I agree,,, with both of you,,,, but I have a story to add,,,,

I use MSN IM,,,, when I was sending out allnurses,, Christmas Cards,,, etc,,, for somereason,,,, all sorts of names appearing on my IM,,,,,

I posted a message,,, here,,,,, to let everyone know,,,, as I am not sure how all appeared,,,, I did answer anyone who IM'd me,,, as to who I was,,,, how we got on each other's IM,,,, then gave them,,, the option,,, of deleting me,,,,

I still have several,,,, I am not sure who they are!,,,,, afraid to delete,,, as you said,,,, It could be someone who has changed their screen name,,,,, Wish they'd let me know,,,, lol
    take care Nik~

Another example of why this site has gone down the tubes.

Could someone explain how that image "violated the TOS?"

It wasn't vulgar, I didn't insult anyone, and I will even go as far as to say it was well within the pg-13 limitations.

I have already posted in the feedback section, so don't recommend that. It's obviously not the way to get a quick answer around here. It would be nice if when your post gets edited you get an explanation. Yeah, I got a PM and it said the same thing that is written here. That the image was a violation of the TOS. Not much of an explanation.
