What the big deal about Survivor? I love that show!

  1. It seems like all I've been hearing on TV for the past few days is this controversy over Survivor having divided into 4 racial groups. What's the big deal? They have segregated, in the past, by men/women, old/young, etc....what the big difference with race? Should be interesting. I'm sure if the participants had been upset they would not have agreed to go. I'm looking forward to seeing the debut tonight.

Although I love "Survivor", I am NOT happy about the upcoming show being racially/ethnically divided. For one, AMERICA is a mix of sooooooooo many cultures (races, ethnic groups....) that America has YET to figure out what other countries have long been able to accept...Americans are Americans! We need to STOP being divided by race/ethnic groups. WHEN will we EVER just be ONE COUNTRY, ONE NATION....plain AMERICANS....???

I've noticed that there's been more advertisement for this season than the other seasons.

Too much of the show is staged. FAR cry from reality in more ways than one, now

    Ask Paris.

Couldn't ask Paris anything. My brain would explode from the sudden decrease of IQ points just from being around "her".

I started a thread about it, too. Sorry, I didn't see your's. I don't have an issue with the division except for how unevenly unmatched the teams are. I don't think it is any coincidence that the Asian team- 3 guys, 2 girls- all in great shape, won the first challenge and the African-American team, 2 guys (one of whom is overweight) and 3 girls lost. Or that the 3rd place team also is a 2 guys, 3 girls division. In a game where the challenges are overwhelmingly physical in nature, it seems like it would be more fair to match teams more closely.

I agree MERCYTEAPOT! The teams aren't evenly matched (muscle to muscle) for now, and I wasn't the least bit surprised at what was portrayed on last night's FIRST show. Yes...it made me yawn. Here's hoping next week's show steps it up a notch.....or more. I will say that the man that was voted off was my first pick to go...glad the team sent him sailing.

Oh yeah, that guy just had to go... he is one of the more annoying contestants that's ever been on. I thought it was hilarious that he was using the fire argument to attempt to swing Stephannies' vote- ''if I leave, you'll never get fire''. Um, they already didn't have fire because he was no more successful at building one than the rest of them, lol! Besides, everyone knows that you get fire at the first Tribal Council. Hasn't he ever watched the show?? :uhoh21:

I'm a HUGE Survivor fan!! I go through withdrawals when it's in between seasons.

I haven't noticed more ads for this season, but could be because I don't watch much TV and therefore don't see any commercials.

I think it's great the way their doing it this season .... splitting them up the way they are. It's different ...... it's gutsy ...... and it'll be interesting to watch!!

You can bet the tribes won't be split long though, I give it 3 weeks max. They never keep the tribes split up long before they merge into 2 tribes.

Jeff Probst said that like 80% of the applicants are white, therefore in past seasons the majority of the contestants have been white. Think about it ..... this season there are only 5 white people. There are most minorities this season than ever before. I think that's great.

I agree they might not be the best matched up. I guess they're pretty limited on the number of people that apply though ...... if 20% are minorities, they have those 20% to pick from, for each of the other 3 groups? But then again, the tribes don't ever seem to be fairly matched up.

I think it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I LOVE this show ...... I'm so glad it's back!!

That line might have worked on a woman towards the end of the game when they're all "spent" physically, mentally, and emotionally...especially if they're hungry at that time. He just used it wayyyyyyyyy too soon. Besides, he obviously thought women were stupid enough to weaken to his suggestion. Women hate a whiney man. Someone needs to tell him that.

I liked when the one guy had a major headache, and the Vietnamese gentleman cured it with an ancient technique of applying pressure on the forehead. Wow. Think I'll call on him next time I get a headache. The group needs to shut up about him being "old"...generation gap"...as they were talking about him before that headache cure he performed. :wink2:

Oh, I know... the guy is only 42! That was kind of stupid! And the guy with the headache said it went away.
