I haven't heard it often...but it does happen. Check out the National Weather Service site. (Don't know what they call it in Canada)

    a blizzard!!

glad i am not living in canada!! seriously, i have heard of thunder happening during a blizzard, but have never witnessed it myself. of course, i have only been through 2 blizzards in my life, and the one was when i was 9 years old. hope you stay safe and warm...and don't lose the power!! then you wouldn't be able to log on and talk to all of us.....:d

Yes, we have winter-thundering a lot here. Especially during snowstorms. That's because we are surrounded by high mountains and everything drops on us right in the middle of it.
Keep warm and don't go out, when you don't really have to!
    Take care, Renee

Thanks everyone! I just put a few more logs on the fire and its really feeling all warm and toasty in here between the heat and the well wishes from all of you. Thankfully I don't have to go out venturing at all today, and I was able to cancel the volunteer teen group I run (special needs)..... so now all that's left is for me to grab a hot cup of cocoa, sit back, and enjoy all the conversation on here, (it hasn't thundered in the past half hour so at least that's over for now).

    Hugs and smiles to all!

We've had thunder and lightning during winter storms and blizzards here too, but we don't have mountains here in Minnesota like Renee has. It's just weird weather sometimes.

Yep, many moons ago I remember we had 'em in NJ during the blizzard of '66. Christmas eve as a matter of fact. Along with the snow and the winds we had thunder and lightning too. I don't remember them any other time.

I grew up in IN. and never noticed it...but while serving in Japan in '86 we had flurries one day during the monsoon season (oct-mar) and the thunder really threw us all for a loop- it was ominous then but I've heard it since in TN, NC, and down here in AL.... It just kind of neat now

We called it "thunder-snow" --had several of them up in the mountains the year hubs & I met.

We'd pull up the piano bench in front of the window, pop some popcorn, watch, and....well, you know.....

Weather was wierd here today too. I was in meetings all day and looked out the window to see dark clouds and rain, and then an hour later snow blowing!

So, Adrie, what's so weird about that? Sounds like normal November weather to me in this neck of the woods!
