What other types of Bulletin Boards do you 'surf' to?

  1. It's almost 2:00 AM. My one patient is safely sleeping with his trusty ol' cardiac monitoring showing sinus rhythm. All's well in our little CCU/ICU land.

    So . . .

The "Allnurses.com" bulletin board is one of about four that I surf two. It's the only nursing/healthcare focused Bulletin Board that I visit. ALL other BB's are music/recording focused.

Just because I'm passing the time away here. . . and I want to have fun with the "post a poll" function. . .

What other types of web sites/Bulletin Boards do you surf to?

Hey Ted! I want to come and work with you when I graduate. Then we'll each have half a patient.
    :chuckle

This is the only nursing board I go to. I used to go to tons of nursing, student nursing, advanced practice nursing boards when I was waiting to be accepted into nursing school... now I'm in the middle of it, and I can only stand so much nursing stuff.

I'm a writer so I go to a few creative writing boards. There is one that's really neat, it will give you a character, or a place, or some other 'assignment' and we all write about it and post it.... its pretty cool. But only if you're into that kind of thing. It sort of helps me past writer's block.

I go to an asthma board because my asthma has been causing me grief lately... that's strictly on a patient level, though.

I go to a quilting board because I'm really interested in quilting (my auntie is supposed to teach me how). I always thought my grandmother would, but she passed away last December, and now everytime I look at the quilt she made for me, it makes me sort of misty-eyed and happy at the same time. Weird.

And all the other time I'm online... I'm downloading mp3's and burning CDs. I'm hopelessly addicted. Although recently I saw on the news that BMG is starting to make CDs that can't be converted to mp3 format so they can't be uploaded and shared. I guess I can understand that because it costs the music industry a lot of revenue, but I'm all about free music and sharing and not paying $20 at tower for that Godsmack CD I want, you know.

    Sheesh, I'm chatty today.

    MsPurp:

Splitting a patient in half . . . interesting concept.

Sounds like you've got some neat place to 'surf' to. Two of the music/recording BB's I go to allow it's members to show case their music via mp3 file. Then they critique your works. Ouch!! (Musicians can be so mean!!)

Creative people in general can be catty. I think that's because we're cursed with chronic low self esteem and inferiority complexes. Or maybe that's just my issue.

I used to go to the boards @ www.ldonline.org It's for parents of learning disabled kids, advice, support..yada. I also like some of the groups on yahoo, some author boards etc.

Well, I selected "other." Craft/Hobby/Special Interest seemed to broad to me

Cooking: Taste of Home's bulletin board site (I'll have to look up the exact address) is an excellent recipe and general "kitchen" type BBS. I've picked a number of good recipes and hints there.

Book Club: an MSN community I belong to that's all about books and what each member is reading and their recommendations. I love it!

And, of course, here. Those are my most frequent (e.g., more than once a day!) surfing spots.

I used to be a regular visitor to a bb about Douglas Adams. But that got ruined by the crazies, so it's shut down. This one is better, anyway.

Ms Purp (or anyone else who would know)
could you give me the www site for the writers BB I would like to encourgae a friend(not a nurse) to go there and develop hre skills
    Thank you

The one I was speaking of is at http://www.about.com . Your friend will need to register with a username and a password, and all the boards are listed alphabetically.
I go to Women's Writers (although that one can be sort of snooty and boring with infinite essays on the state of literature and the life of Emily Dickinson... sheesh), Freelance writers (mostly nonfiction journalism and technical writing), the Poetry boards, and the Screenwriting one. There's also a Creative writing board for teens, I go there occasionally to encourage all the young writers.
Hope this helps. There are a lot of other boards out there that I frequent occasionally, but these are the ones I go to most often.

I think Compuserve has a great Writer's Forum. Diana Gabaldon [of Outlander fame] co-chairs the "Research and Craft" section.

Zee-I think I'll try the MSN Community one. Thanks
