What kind of vehicle should I get?

  1. Since I totalled my little 97 Geo Tracker last Friday, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need to get a new vehicle. I haven't gotten the final word from the insurance Company yet but the guy that I spoke to at the Auto Body place where my car is temporarily being stored is pretty certain that my Tracker will be a total loss. I still owe $1,613.09 on it. It was due to be paid off in April.

Anyhow, my next vehicle is going to be a Ford product as my husband is a Ford man(I came from a Chevy family). He's really good at wheeling and dealing with Car Salesmen where I am not. So, I was thinking of getting a new Ford Escape or an Explorer. I would really like the Explorer but hubby says there is no way I can afford that. I disagree. So, do any of you have an Escape or Explorer and if so, do you like it? Why or why not? Thanks for your input!

Don't get a big SUV!! Gas guzzlers! I detest Ford, except Ford trucks. Otherwise their vehicles stink (literally).

    Get a Toyota Corolla.

Saturns are not comfy...get an Olds Alero. Still in the Ford family but oh so cool!!! Not very expensive either. That's what I'm getting in May when I graduate...woohoo!!!!

I have to agree with Susy here. I hate SUV's. Can't stand being behind them (can't see the traffic lights), in front of them (their headlights come right in my car), or parked next to them (they take up too much room). They are gas guzzlers and an eyesore. My advice: a Passat. Get a wagon if you need the room. I just got a 2002 Jetta and love it. The Passats come in a huge variety of colors and aren't terribly expensive.

My freiend has a ford escape and he loves it, and it's oh so comfy and doesn't guzzle gas like some of the other suv's, it was pricey tho, at least 26,000 with all the options. maybe more, good luck, buying a car is a HUGE investment/hassle, try this website, has AWESOME advice, also try autobytel.com good advice there too.

Or how about a Subaru Outback? You can have the SUV-ness without all the crap that Mel highlighted....

Fine. I'll drool over the Jaguar by myself. Or did you mean a car in reality? :chuckle

    I vote for Honda.

I agree with some of the previous posts......avoid an urban assault vehicle (aka SUV).

How about a bicycle? I ride mine almost every day by commuting 5 miles. It really is easy, good exercise and I am not contributing to global warming or the clogged roads. Give it a try!!
