What have I gotten myself into!!?

  1. I love animals . Right now I have two dogs and five cats -- more than enough to keep me busy. I was websurfing this morning and went to a retriever rescue site that sometimes lists dogs still in shelters. (I wasn't looking for another dog -- I was just websurfing!)

I'd love to run my own rescue organization, but lack the time, funds and know-how. I've considered the idea of providing a foster home for rescue animals while a permanent home is being found.

I saw a picture of a dog in a shelter that made me want to quit procrastinating. I sent an email to the rescue organization, thinking it would be days before I even heard back. Well, the reply go here in a few minutes! Apparently, if that dog is not reunited with its owner, the rescue people want to take it, but had no place to keep it-- that is, until they heard from me.

Well, within the couple of hours since then, I have become a future foster dog mom. There's no dog on its way here yet, but probably soon. If that particular dog is adopted out of the shelter or returned to its owners, they will place another dog with me.

I'd love to foster cats, but I don't think my cats would like the intrusion into their territory. But I figure I can always provide food, shelter and love to another dog.

I think it's great you're willing to be a foster mom to animals. We got our retriever from a rescue group. We met the dog at the foster families house. They kept her until they were sure she was going to survive. (She was one really sick pup when they found her).

We had her home for a couple of weeks, then went on vacation. The foster family kept her for free and made sure she got to the vet for spaying and recovery while we were gone.

Our dog, Abby has given us many years of joy as part of our family. If it hadn't been for a wonderful family willing to take her in, she would have been put down at a shelter.
