What Gives???

  1. I am confused and angry. I am here in NC, looking for work. I have answered some ads, I went to 3 places. I was insulted by the person conducting the interview, they set the time, not me, I showed up and was accused of coming at a bad time! O.K. but I reminded her she set the time and I would come back again later if necessary, WELL, she said , NO, it would interfere with her plans. I said perhaps she just was not interested in hiring a nurse and left. #2. Went in, was set upon like a mouse by ADON, O.K., I filled out an application, talked to them and made it clear that I was interested in position. They asked why I was leaving WV, explained had some personal issues and needed to be here. Well, was I sure I could pass a criminal background check? Was I sure my license was valid? Was there anything I wanted to tell them? Yep, sure was, I am not a criminal, I would not waste my time or their's with applying for position if my license was bogus, A phone call would verify that all is kosher. They had the number so call if they wanted to talk further. #3. Answered ad, was made to feel welcome, interviewer was familiar with nursing problems in WV, many nurses she had worked with in past had said same thing I stated, one look at my salary was enough. She wanted me to fill out application and return it today and she would give me figures and more facts. I did this, when I got there I was told she was too busy to talk to me and would call on MONDAY. Hey, I plan to go home Monday, so call, but I will not make a special effort to return. What gives, I was on my best behavior, I did not burp or F**t, I brought verifible references. I was not too high in asking price or too low. I think my age is working against me. I also think I am being judged because I experience. BUT, it was on news here last evening that they are importing nurses from Moldova. So I guess I need to be foreign? Need English lesson's, and also need to pass boards before I am employable!! This stinks, I am going to give it one more try and then GOOD BYE NC.

Sorry you are so frustrated! Why do you think your age is against you? I gather you are looking at long term care. Have you considered another arena? Not sure why you had such bad luck, but keep looking. Consider another area maybe?

    Awww, Barefoot !

I DO feel so badly for you ! That really stinks. I don't believe it's your age, though.. I really don't. Where exactly in NC were you looking? What area?

Did you inquire about nocs? I know a lot of places can't seem to find enough nurses to cover nocs. Keep looking... don't give up yet.

Perhaps Eleanaster can give you some ideas, too... hang in there ! :kiss

Hang in there and good luck. You are marketable and have wisdom, skills and experience. Soon some busy nurse administrator is going to set her/his stress aside for a moment and realize that and snatch you right up.

What about going out on a travel assignment? This might be the answer...you can set everything up from home, let the recruiters deal w/managers. That way you'll have time to network an get the "lay of the land", so to speak.

Gee, thanks guys. I just needed to vent. I am in the Greensboro area. I know I am marketable. I know I have skills. I know this is a test that God wants me to realize He is in charge of. Maybe my answer is not here. I am not going to give up yet. I have lots of places to look. I just think these 3 people have been very "different" to deal with when it comes to a job interview. OH, well. the weekend is here, I am going to relax and enjoy my grandkids, and start again on Monday. I hope each and every one of you have a great weekend. If you work this weekend, then I hope there is enough staff to make it a really enjoyable shift. Thanks for being there and listening.
