What do you do to unwind after a rough shift?

  1. I do one or more of the following:

Come in here, and get really absorbed reading the threads and posting.

Sit on my front porch, surrounded by flowers, with a cat on my lap.

Have a beer, sometimes, but just one.

Put some Ben-Gay on my back, and my DH rubs my feet.

Call my best friend (an RN) who loves in another state and commiserate.

    EAT.

    What do you do?

(I changed my thread, because after thinking about it, I thought that maybe making a list of any kind would be a bad, idea, even if it's a list of members whose posts I love reading!)

to unwind, i used to come on and see what obnurseheather and hapeewendy were up to.
now I go play a round of golf or do up old run down houses.
Guess the latter is better for me but the girls were more relaxing

I remember when I would run home from work to log onto here to lurk and read what heather,wendy,emily_mom,susy and others would post. I got such a kick out of them! They were like my other family. My roomate actually would get tired of me telling him what they posted. Now I just come home and turn on the tv. How sad

Then we gotta find some way to come up with funny, relaxing posts. Cuz that was one way I coped with all the stuff I put up with in my day..and not feel so alone in the nursing world.
Cats in the lap are great. Dogs licking my feet aren't bad. But they just don't understand like other nurses do....

I really enjoy reading a lot of posts from a lot of different people. I find this BB facinating.

I really miss micro. She has such a twisted sense of humor! And I like to hear from memebers from other parts of the world, like a-rose. haven;t seen her in a while either.

Not a bad idea, I changed the title of your thread for you to reflect the change in topic.

there are several things that i have done to wind down. playing the piano and singing is high on my list. i too like to sit on the porch in the late evenings.

First things first... kick off the shoes, pull off the bra (which I don't need anyway)....change into my "comfies" and THEN...

Fix myself a fresh, hot cup of coffee and check out Allnurses !

That takes my mind off things for about an hour.
Then, with spring/summer here, I too, enjoy sitting on the front porch in my rocker with my coffee and watching the folks come home from work, mowing their yards, etc. Water the flowers, and just settle back and enjoy a peaceful evening.

After 13 hours I like to come home and eat. After that I like to read the daily paper, catch up with the family on their day. Do a couple chores, check the BB if there's time.

After a really bad day I am hugging and loving the dog until she is sick of me. Then I put on my headphones and listen to something that really rocks like the group System of a down. Next I call my bestfriend, then my second best friend. I am usually much calmer after that.

Thanks for this thread, it reminded me in how many ways I am blessed. Thinking of my family, my dog, my friends, what a lucky person I am.
