what do you think they will do?

  1. The thought of another terrorist attack remains on everyone's mind. We had quite a discusssion at Thanksgiving dinner. Some are convinced they will poison the water systems. Others, the release of some bio-chemical in crowded domed stadiums across the country one Saturday. Or find a way to undermine/cripple healthcare providers---like sending free stethoscopes "infected" with some pathogen that would enter and destroy the brain through your ears. (My 16 year old nephew came up with that one.

No one seems to think it won't happen. Just that it's a matter of what and when. And that it will probably be inhumane beyond our wildest imaginings. What do you think?

Everyone seems to think the terrorists will come up with some brilliant plan beyond anything we can envision. I think they will continue in the same vein that they always have; through suicide bombings. And al-Qaida has already struck many times since 9/11 just not on American soil including the bombings in Kenya yesterday and the recent bombing in Bali.

My bet is suicide bombings. Cheap and effective.

So far as the stethoscope business is concerned, most of them are ALREADY infected from abundant use without being disinfected either frequently or effectively. (Ask your IC nurse if you want more details.)

at our Thanksgiving some people were wondering if the cruise ships have been infected with something, not just passing around Norwalk virus brought on board by passengers.
my own great fear is cargo ships coming into port with dirty bombs.
for all the hype about homeland security no real changes have been made. the states have not been given promised funding; six needed linguists were discharged for homosexual activity [remember on 9/11 the messages running across the tv screen: Arabic translators please call...?] we gave the mujahadeen Stinger missles to use against the Soviets, who knows where the terrorists have moved them.
having Henery Kissinger chair the investigation into what went wrong with intelligence pre-9/11 does not reassure me either.

What I cannot understand is why people from other countries will kill themselves in those suicide attacks while intending to mess up the lives of so many people. I wish that this would just STOP! They don't know us! and I'm sure some of them are good people too! Those children over there probably don't even know what to think, and its the same here! Is this the type of atmosphere young people should be brought up in? I am so much against racism, the only people who I am really against are the people of any race who thrive on killing! STOP HATING, STOP KILLING, STOP DESTROYING!
    I'm off my soap box now . . . I think

"Why must we go on hating! Why cant we live in bliss?" ~ Cat Stevens "peace train" . . . . Hey I think I'll use this as my tagline.

While most pple fear we will needlessly go to war, l fear we may be looking at the situation thru hopeful rose colored glasses.....We are depending on a man as evil as Saten himself to be "truthful"...regarding his weapons situation?....give me a break...This is not a human being that wants to be placated by the USA.....He wants nothing less than "death to the US."...and makes no secret about it...l heard on the news that they are discovering that Saddam may have hidden components of weapons of mass distruction in civillian homes through out Iran....It is only my oppinion, but l believe at this point our only choices we have about going to war with Iran is where do we want to fight this war....here or in Iran?.....If we wait too long and find that our trust was misplaced, we could see consequences that would pale 9-11......it's not a matter of if, but when, unless our wepons inspectors get very lucky....and who really knows?......LR

I really don't think the terrorists are as well organized, or have as many organized plans as we originally thought. Over a year has gone by and we've only had vague threats...why? If they are so committed there should have been a serious attempt. Perhaps the rumors and fear are the best they can do at this time. Heaven knows that airport security is no better, and I can think of a hundred different possibilities for even one determined suicide bomber.

Cowards- even Osama didn't expect the Twin Towers to come down, that was dumb luck on their part.

I know what the easiest thing to do would be, just walk onto bus or into building with bomb strapped to your body. You can look at what has happened in other countries and see what is most likely to happen here. There was that little ditty of shooting hand held rockets at civilian airliner. They musta been those real simple point and shoot rockets that have no homing devices. If it had been Stinger missiles they shot at that plane it would have been hit. You don't have to be highly organized to commit randome acts of violence.

    I couldn't agree more.

However there are certain people in the United States who have a vested interest in maintaining the fear and the belief that the terrorist are these brilliant, highly organized, masterminds who will strike us at any minute with an attack beyond anything we could imagine. It suits their purposes to maintain this fear because they can then convey the impression that they and only they can stop this, but only if we give them the absolute power they need to do so and a blank check to do anything else they want to do in the name of fighting terrorism. Any guesses as to who that could be?

Yes, and it's a good thing these terrorists truly aren't
    brilliant, highly organized, masterminds
or we'd be in deep shyt.

Here's a different take on this, which suggests the "War on terrorism" needs a whole different approach.

In short, we still don't get it. More food for thought.
