What do you do with your computer? photo restorations anyone? Lots of pics, sorry.

  1. When I bought my first computer it was to restore a photo of my mother taken during ww2.
When I was 4 I was admiring the only surviving photo we had of mom, (due to a house fire) when she was in her twenties.
The old photo album had lost all it's sticky stuff so I pulled out a piece of tape, (remember I was 4) well the tape landed across half of mom's face and down her body and when I pulled it up...

I kept the pic all through the years because I knew that someday I'd be able to fix it...
So about ten years ago I took it to a professional and they said they used a computer to do what they did. I was not happy at all with the outcome so I got my own computer and figured out the program needed and here's the results.

    The pic I messed up:

Here's my restoration in black & white:
(still got a little more highlighting to do before I'll be happy with it)

    Here's a little color wash I added:

Those were first attempts and I still want to redo it just one more time...

Okay 1 more photo and story...
We had a big family but never a "family portrait"... Well the closest was when someone sold my dad a camera in the midsixties and my brother got all the kids together on the couch and snapped a pic.
I decided to add the rest of them using old photos from about the same time period... I added a brother who was on a date, (by my dad), the brother who took the pic, (with his arm around mom), and used a pic from about 6 years before of my eldest brother who died in a car wreck in 1962, (he's the one in the middle).
Here's my version of our family portrait from about 1966, (I'm in the front leaning on the coffee table)

    Here's the original:

Here's a pic of the brother who took the original pic and couldn't be in it. He was very close to our mom and so I like the way his arm ended up being around her shoulder. The original pic is of me, (ridin' the pony) and him at about Xmas time 1967.

    Okay only two more originals:
My brother who died in 1962, (he's holding the booze):

Giuseppe.....can you turn this pic into a color one....it's in black and white, and I've tried changing it to color on the Microsoft Picture It! 2000......didn't work.

Giuseppe, what program are you using? I am itching to get my fingers on it...

Right now I only do ebay photos (can't fix them up, people would complain when their item didn't look as good as the picture!) and photos of my family. But my mom has hundreds of family photos and I'd LOVE to work on the ones in sad shape...

    Hi Shygirl!

Thanks for saying so! Now.....if TIME would just be as good to my MIND as it has been to my body.....I'd be alright indeed! :chuckle :kiss
