What do you like to collect?

  1. Hello, I am new to the "board" Posted a few and answered a few. I've never seen this question before. What do you like to collect? I collect longaberger baskets and just started collecting roosters.

P.S. I like the way so many of you seem to really know each other, It's like you are all of the same family or something!

    Thanks, Gilda

I like to go to thrift stores, church rummages sales and some garage sales and get very old books. Especially the very old politically incorrect nursery rhymes, childrens books, and recipe books. It's funny that this old Betty Crocker cook book uses pork, pork grease and big sticks of butter in almost every dinner dish! PORK RULES!! I also found an old "manners" book for new wives from 1952. Boy was that a hoot! "Speak in soft tones to your husband as to not distress him." :chuckle
I find it fascinating how times have changed through literature.

Hiya Gilda! I don't collect anything but I am interested to know what a 'longaberger basket' is? When you speak about rooster are you talking about the feathered kind?

My guess is: 'Longaberger basket' - Type of institution where they keep senile old Eastern Europeans. But how can you collect these? Or do you just keep the cases?

Rooster: What you use to p#$ss off your neighbour! How many of these can you actually keep?

Is there a slight chance that I am wrong on either? Just wondering.....

Mary Moo Moo's, I don't know why but some of them are just so damn cute. I started collecting them after we had bought our first curio cabinet. I came home and it was full! Of his stuff! So we bought a cabinet just for me, and I had to fill it up.

Speak in soft tones to your husband? :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle
LasVegasRN...that IS a riot! A man had to write that book, right? Please don't tell me a woman wrote it!

I use to collect Troll dolls...all of them...had them for several years until this four year old boy came to visit with his dad (his dad was a soldier friend of my hubbys). The little boy played with them while visiting, and when it was time to go home, he wouldn't give them back. His father told him it was time to go, so thank the nice lady for letting you play with the troll dolls. He thanked me, BUT clutched the bag of them under his arms tightly. When his father tried taking them away from him, he fell to the floor in a tantrum, kicking and screaming saying "No, Daddy, I want to keep them!" I said, "Dad, it's okay. I was looking for a nice home for them anyway, and since your son seems to love them, I feel really good about letting him have them." Of course, I lied...hadn't planned to give them away, but couldn't stand to break the little one's heart. So....away they went to a new home, and I've never collected anything since.

I love to collect old, personal photographs. I love to imagine what was going on then, and now, in the persons life, and try to understand why the photo is not so important to them anymore

    JoeyR,

Longaberger baskets are actual baskets handwoven in Dresden Ohio. They have so many to choose from. As for the roosters....No, it's not the kind to p--- off the neighbors :chuckle
It's just the ceramic, tin, plates, etc. Gilda

    Mario,

Are these family pictures or just old pics laying around. How do you get pictures on your reply? Gilda

    NurseDennie,
I liked what you did at that page. The flowers were very pretty. I rolled them around for a while! Experienced nurse vs. graduate nurse. Funny stuff!

Gilda, sometimes at a estate sale, or garage sale, or antique store you can get good pics. These pics are of my family, they re my grandparents & older uncles
This is my dad and younger uncle outside a NYC store, 1930's

To put a picture with your reply, select IMG, then put the url address in the box. We can take it from IMG
