What did you do before you became a nurse?

  1. I thought this might be an interesting thread as everyone can relate to this. Was the money good? What kind of c*** did you have to put up with? Etc...Etc.. I'll start. I worked in a bike shop (bicycles) for two years. I can't begin to tell you the odd balls I have dealt with.

First I worked as a clerk in a hospital lab. Then, on to a position as a Research Assistant, mixing allergy shot antigens.

I went from high school to college to nursing, so only summer job in between and worked as a kind of CNA during.

My summer job was driving a horse and buggy as a tour guide in downtown Memphis. Can you imagine? Me with a Colonel Sanders bowtie, top hat and a very big horse.

I hope it is of great comfort that in the event we are not able to use our vehicles, I can drive a horse and buggy.

Ted, what instrument did you play? I used to teach music (drums) to mostly high school students looking to get into the jazz band. I'm a jazz drummer myself, but I enjoy playing all sorts of music.

I worked in a printing factory, it was a huge place. I hated everything about it. I quit and went back in the Army. I have also farmed and hauled livestock for people at the same time I was a nurse, I worked 2-12's on the weekend at the hosp. and farmed the rest of the time. I loved farming because I was my own boss, but it got so I couldn't really make any money at it so I quit farming and did more nursing.

Always glad to meet a fellow musician!

I'm a keyboard player. Before I decided to study nursing, my wife and I were gainfully employed as lounge musicians on a cruise ship! Basically, we gave up that gig to save our marriage! (Long story).

Jazz drummer, huh! Where do you live? Give me a PM. . . I'll respond!

You seem new to this crazy bulletin board! Welcome!

    Cheers to you!

    P. S. Check out my web site. It'll give you an idea what I'm currently doing with my music! Give me a PM!

Nope, King had a bag he wore on his butt. I did have to empty that bag every now and then.

I was a full time CNA at a local hospital before nursing school, and before that was an activity assistant in a nursing home and before that a CNA in another nursing home.

    Vegas,

I used to live in Millington when I was in the Navy. Memphis was the highlight of our weekend. Course, I don't remeber much of the Beal Street adventures we had!

Don't feel bad, I don't remember much of my activities at Silky Sullivan's on the Square!!

My route with King covered Beale Street, Main Street and 3 Mile Mall.

I worked at Magic Wok the last half of my senior year in high school. Then I got a job at a local hotel chain. Started in housekeeping and moved to the front desk (woohoo!) I worked there for about 6 or seven months.

Never worked another day until I got my first job as a nurse.
