What did you do with your first BIG paycheck?

  1. I can not wait to get that first paycheck. I know many of you say it is not a lot, but going from $6/hr to $20/hr will make a difference in my pocket. Share some things you all did after you recieved a bigger check after nursing school. I think I will take my family shopping. I can not wait for that day...

My 1st and 2nd Paychecks will be sent in their entierity to my aunt and my parents - they can do what they wish with 'em.

3rd Paycheck onwards... well, we'll see. Mostly it'll be to pay off me credit card debts

my folks were born/grew up the latter part of th depression/early ww 2. guess i inherited some of their thinking. soooo, part of my first "big pay check" went into the bank. has come in handy, esp. going back for my degree.

I paid my rent. I actually had less disposable income after I started nursing then when I was in college because I had a well paying job in college and few expenses.

That was in 1975 and I honestly don't remember. I do remember thinking, wow, that's alot of money. I made $3.75 an hour. Now $29.38 an hour. We've come a long way baby! Woo Hoo ! Well come to think of it the price of living was alot lower back then too. Gas was like .55 a gallon, Oh well I guess it's all relative. Nurses complain about not being paid well. I think I am but that may be because I've got 30 years in.

I think the only reason I want to go shopping from my first paycheck is because I was not able to do so during my nursing school. But you know how it is... I will buy myself a nice "You Made It Through Nursing School" present.

For my first nursing paycheck I went out and bought myself a nice sweater, I had really wanted one for years.

For my graduating with my BSN I went to the bookstore and bought all the books I wanted (trashy novels) and anything not having to do with nursing school and put it on my credit card. It was a BLAST!

First full-time paycheck EVER (many years ago) went toward a ten-speed bike. First big check (to $18/ hr from $11/ hr) we were fortunate enough to be able to sock away $250 per paycheck into savings. Six years later, it has gone to my daughter's college tuition.
