What comes home in the pocket of your scrubs?

  1. As I was sorting laundry today, I found 5 rolls of tape, 9 pens, 2pairs of clean gloves, a NS flush, a 10 cc syringe, and about 100 alcohol preps

Does anyone else end up with all of this in a week??

I promise I will take it all back on Friday.......

I buy my own pens, won't use those cheap things the hospital supplies. But I usually have a pretty wide variety of other supplies. I just looked in my warm-up jacket pocket. I have tape, bandaids, gauze, alcohol wipes, a pad of post-it notes, IV connectors, a vial of saline, an ammonia capsule, a couple of packets of surgilube, and two caps from syringes. I could start my own store.

I have a nasty habit of re-capping then pocketing syringes after giving injections. As I work with animals, the risk of infection is very low. However, I also have a nasty habit of getting pulled over for speeding. I've had to explain my syringes a few times (after being searhced, the car searched, even had a drug dog come take a sniff once). I also pocket the bandage tape and the suture scissors far too often as well.

Ahhhhhh...after taking the narcotic keys home a few too many times...I always check my pockets now.

I once went home with the panic button from work.

I'm pretty religious about always emptying my pockets before I leave work, but occasionally I'll put latex gloves or lip balm through the wash.

    The Pay Check! ! !

Always put it in my scubs pocket. . . along with the alcohol swabs, scissors, and even a Texas catheter (once. . . . by mistake. . . really! )

    Cheers!

I also empty my pockets into a bag I carry with me (and refill my pockets with all the stuff next time I work) also for fear of taking narc keys home. The only thing that goes through the wash is the odd IV or needle cap. Worst thing I sent throgh the wash was a packet of Pepto Bismol Tablets that broke open and bled pink all over a load of mostly white uniforms. I think rubbing alcohol got much of the stains out, thank goodness.

I also went home with the narcotic keys once. Had to drive all the way back to work with them. Now, I empty my pockets before I leave.
