What are you getting your Mom for Mother's Day

  1. Mother's Day is just around the corner and I am feeling frustrated because I want to give my mom something special. Mom lives in another state so I can't be with her. Some years I find just the perfect something that I know she will really like and has meaning beyond being just a gift for a gift's sake, but this year it hasn't happened.

I was wondering what others were giving, or what was the most special present you ever gave or received for Mother's Day.

What I have started to do is to get my mom, who is a computer whiz, a gift certificate from Amazon.com she likes it and while it isn't all that special, I make sure that it comes gift wrapped from the company even though she knows what it is, it sort of in a goofy way makes it more special. The best gift I ever gave her was a birdbath (she is a gardner as well.) which I incidently bought off of Amazon.com's sale page. That one I didn't have gift wrapped. What I get my Dad every year- and you could for mom is a cheesecake, or chocolate cake from Harry and Davids. My Mom is also a health nut and won't bring the stuff into the home, but if it gets mailed there, well, they are both happy to consume it. For my Dad who has everything a treat that doesn't have to be stored anywhere is nice.

A new edition of the Darwin Awards book (you know the funny stories about people removing themselves from the gene pool in strange and stupid ways).

My Mom has lung Ca and is currently getting palitive chemo (praying for a remission).

Over the last 3 months she has been gifted with many new nighties, drives in the sunshine, home cooked meals and house keeping services.

For Mothers Day she is getting a new recliner, cable TV (she won't spend the $35 an month on her self) and flowers for her patio.

Being married for 51 years, my Mother has "everything". Now confined to her home, She remarked she wanted to get her backyard landscaped. I spied a heavy plastic grey stone carved appearing bench two days later and got it before Easter. We gave it to her as a combined Easter and Mother's Day present. She hired my laid off nephew to work miracles planting and digging. Two bushy Hostas were planted on either side of the bench and she sits on it every evening to admire her yard.

Another thing she repeatedly looks at is a memory albumn we gave her for her 50th aniversary. Remember, it's the thought that counts.

I got my mother some things from Bath and Body Works. Her favorite fragarance is Moonlight Path. She loves the body wash, so I got her a few tubes of that and a body splash and also got her a tube of the Shea butter body cream. It works really well for softening up knees and elbows. Plus, the B&B works in my area is having the 5 for $35 sale.

I am getting my mom two new jammy tops that had to be specially made because she is so picky! She has wanted this for years. She will be shocked when she gets them. Another idea is a longaberger mother's day basket. I asked for one myself and hope I receive it.

I appreciate the gifts. I like the special cards most of all. The ones where they enclose a note that might begin with , "remember that time we.................." And it goes on to give my childs' perspective and remembrance. It might mention his appreciation , or awareness of a sacrifice I made in his behalf, or his acknowledgement of how difficult something must have been for me, and finally words of thanks and hugs and kisses. As parents, we always wonder how we did, what do the kids remember? Do they know how hard we worked? How difficult it is to juggle all the balls? And of course, none of us parented perfectly. So, I appreciate most of all a written note of affirmation as a mother. I appreciate that they care enough to take the time to select a great card, joggle their memory bank , and take the time to put it into words....All that other stuff I can buy myself.

A heart-shaped dried wreath that smells wonderful-it has sage and laurel leaves in it, and in the center, a little box with a sterling silver ring with 4 amethysts alternated with CZs. It doesn't look at all cheap, like some CZ's do.
