Wellness/Fitness thread 5/11/03

  1. Had problems with the board yesterday - wasn't sure if it was my connection or what - I could post - took a lot of time, but kept timing out on trying to start a new thread.

    Good morning!

    Had some serious storms go through again yesterday - talking flash flooding and the whole 9 yards. We got out to the gym after it was all over - did some arm lifting yesterday. Pretty sore today. But it's getting summer and everything in the stores and half the stuff in my closet is sleeveless and when we waltz I don't want a chicken wings flapping around behind me lol.

    That line is helpful when I am supposed to work out and am tempted to stray off course. I remember that I am the ONLY person who can cause change in my body. And I want it more than I want the things that try and tempt me away from that goal. You can do it, too. You know what changes you want, and you CAN make them happen!

    Here's a fun summery recipe:

    Tangy Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Chips

    1 tablespoon sugar
    1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    4 flour tortillas (7 inches)

    SALSA:
    1 can (15 ounces) sliced peaches, drained and chopped
    2 kiwifruit, peeled and chopped
    1 cup sliced unsweetened strawberries
    2 teaspoons lime juice
    1 teaspoon sugar
    1 teaspoon grated lime peel

    Combine sugar and cinnamon. Spritz tortillas with nonstick cooking spray; sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar. Cut each tortilla into eight wedges; place in a single layer in an ungreased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan. Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to a wire rack to cool.

    In a bowl, combine the salsa ingredients; mix gently. Serve with cinnamon chips. Yield: 2-1/4 cups salsa (32 chips).

    ooooh, that sounds YUMMY !

    Well, took a day off yesterday from working out.. I think my body needed it. But since we're going out to eat tonight, I think I'd better hit it again today !

    Has anyone got the Total Gym?? I want to get a Total Gym, but not sure which one to get. There is one that is the 1500, and there is the 3000, and the 5000. Does anyone have a reccomendation?? I'm willing to spend up to $400.00.

    I get bored easily and want something that will keep my interest. Thanks for any replies..

    Jnette I was told by a trainer that you should do no more than 3-5 days a week. That doing more than that is how people hurt themselves.

    I started on a low carb diet Friday and with my water loss I am down 6 pounds....going to take a short walk today after I get home from work before dinner... should make me have a great evening and then I can work on my midterm for my history class.........

    I know, Browns... I break up my muscle groups so I don't work the same ones each day. I do chest. triceps and biceps on one day, and shoulders, back, and legs the next. Abs every day.. (if I'm in the mood, that is.. heh, heh...)

    So that works out just right. So I'm really working each group only eveery other day, which is recommended. Plus, I often take one day off altogether.
