Wellness/Fitness thread 5/5/03

  1. Good morning!

It's been storming here heavily, so no bike today. Hope everyone in the midwest is safe and with power this a.m. I did get a littl exercise this morning hopping over the little worms that managed to crawl in under my front door to escape the deluge.

The plan is to run this evening. Am noticing some benefits from the ab work I've been putting in. It's always nice to see a little tone peeking out!

Edited to add quote and recipe...

"The only true happiness comes from squandering ourselves for a purpose."

    William Cowper (1731 - 1800)

What is your life purpose? Are you reaching your full potential? What can you do differently to make that happen?

    Recipe:

    Amazing Carrot Ginger Soup

    Ingredients

    7 large carrots rough chopped
    2 large onions rough chopped
3 sticks of celery rough chopped
    2 cloves of garlic
1 knob of fresh ginger, finely chopped
    1 tsp cinamon
    1 tsp ground cloves
    1 tsp tumeric
1 tbsp of butter or olive oil
    1 cup of vegatable stock
    salt and pepper to taste
1 cup of plain yogurt (lowfat if you want)
2 cups of milk (lowfat if you want) depends how creamy you want
    it.

    Directions:

In a large pan, saute onions in the butter or olive oil until translucent. Add water if needed to prevent sticking. Add garlic, ginger, celery and carrots, cook until tender. Add the seasonings and more water if necessary to continuing cooking. Add the vegetable stock

Blend or process until smooth. Be VERY careful as the contents
will be hot. You may want to let it cool.

Add the yogurt and the milk and bring up to heat but do not
boil. Salt and pepper to taste.

We're due to get some pretty major storms here tonight from what I hear...hopefully it won't be too bad.

Did my 1-mile tape this morning & am back on track with weight watchers (after falling off of the wagon this weekend).

Well, as tired as I am (just got in from work and back up at 0300 tomorrow again) I'll split my workout this evening into two parts. Do half tonight, other half tomorrow. Now that I'm lifting heavier weights, (as in 25 lb. bicep curls..) I think I'll stick to that routine... that way I don't kill myself all in one day ....

Soup sounds GREAT !!! Thanx !

I'm doing my "breathing" tapes today. Anyone else here tried the Body Flex breathing? It doesn't seem possible, but I get results!

Jnette, you rock!! 25 lbs on your bicep curls-awesome!!! ( ok, you are a "girl", right?!-don't take that the wrong way-I just mean that if you are, 25lbs is even MORE impressive as opposed to if you are a guy ). I need some motivating pictures of those arms!

    Have a great night!
