Wellness/Fitness thread 5/4/03

  1. Good morning!

    Wow - this is a special day - today my sister turns thirty. (Happy Birthday, T-line!!!!) She has decided to celebrate by quitting smoking completely. I wish her all the luck. I don't know what's harder - breaking bad habits or trying to instill new good ones. It's funny, it bothered me a little to turn thirty, but having my baby sister turning 30 is really making me feel old lol.

    We had a fantastic time at the comedy show last night - well worth the pain and suffering I'll be experiencing long about 3:30 today when I'm ready for a serious nap lol. We laughed until I thought my sides would burst. I'm actually a little sore this morning, so I'm wondering about the quote yesterday - maybe it really IS like internal jogging . Hubby may be more sore - he ordered a pitcher of beer assuming *someone* would share it with him, but everyone else was teatotaling, so he wound up drinking the whole thing . Again, I refer you to the above paragraph - we ain't young anymore lol.

    The plan is to get home and nap, and then go out jogging. Had a good run on the tredmill yesterday - I love the incline function. Really makes you work - amazing how 2 or 3 degrees can challenges you that way. Blew the diet a little yesterday at the cookout (someone made one of those wonderful fruit pizzas - does the fruit negate the effect of the cookie base? )

    As I review the above post, it doesn't exactly motivate healthy living, but I offer today's quote:

    Recipe:

    Low fat guacamole (I've tried variations of this type of recipe, and this is the best one.)

    Ingredients
    1/4 cup onion, chopped
    1 tsp garlic, minced
    2 tsp chili powder
    2 tsp cumin
    2 cups frozen peas
    1/3 cup water
    4 tsp lemon juice
    1/4 cup avocado, chopped
    1/4 cup tomato, diced
    1/2 tsp ea. salt & pepper

    Procedure
    Cook first 4 ingredients in a non-stick pan over medium heat until onion is soft. Add the peas and water. Cover and cook 3 minutes. Puree in blender until smooth. (A blender works better than a food processor for this recipe.) Let cool and add remaining ingredients.
