Wellness/Fitness thread 4/29/03

  1. Good morning!

Had a storm blow up out of nowhere yesterday. Bike was soaked lol. It looks a little wet and foggy out this morning, so I think I'll be driving to work, but we'll hit the gym tonight after our dance lesson. Hate not being able to bike - it just wakes me up and sends me into the day energized.

It's been a busy past few days at the clinic. Everyone is getting ready to go home for the summer and I keep getting some very unusual and challenging last minute requests. It's good to have some decompression time on the way home. Do you have some time between when you leave work and when you arrive home to shake off the day? Let's leave our work worries at work - you're not on the clock to be sweating stuff at home! Today, let's consider what we do to transition our brains from work to home. It makes for a less-stressed home life even if you live alone! Exercising after work is hubby's favorite way to get rid of the day. Nothing like getting those endorphins pumping .

    Have a great day!!

"Real success is finding your lifework in the work that you love."

    Mushroom-and-Roasted Pepper Sandwich

    1 teaspoon olive oil
6 cups mushrooms, sliced (or you can try portabellos - wonderful!)
    1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
4 slices Italian bread, cut diagonally 1" thick & lightly toasted
1/2 cup roasted red bell pepper, cut in strips
1 ounce part skim mozzarella cheese (or swiss)

Coat a large nonstick skillet lightly with cooking oil, and place over medium-high heat until hot. Add mushrooms; saute 4 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from heat; stir in Worcestershire sauce. Spoon about 1/3 cup mushroom mixture onto each bread slice; top each with one-fourth of bell pepper strips and 1 cheese slice. Place sandwiches on a baking sheet, and broil for 2 minutes or until cheese melts.

Thanks for a good thread Ratched. I read it every morning...and get motivated to get moving after reading what the rest of you are doing.

I have the best book on fitness and exercise and healthy eating and recipes. I bought it at the grocery store about 4 years ago. If anyone can get it at the library or online, I would encourage it. It really motivates me. The title is Fitonics For Life by Marilyn Diamond and Dr. Donald Schnell. She wrote an earlier book "Fit for Life." (1985--NY Times bestseller list for two full years.)

It is not a diet book. It is about health and lifestyle changes.

    She explains her title:
Fit: Wellness in mind, body, and spirit.
Tonics: Substances, or ideas, that invigorate or strengthen by acting as stimulants or by gradually restoring health.

    Here's a quote from the book> A quote from Hippocrates-- 400 B.C.

"To rest is to rust, and to rust is to decay."

Finally getting over my cold/upper respiratory infection. Was able to get up early this morning & do my mile-walk tape. Felt good to be moving again!

My "off day today".. fullbody weights work-out again tomorrow. Am noticing how quickly those muscles respond again, even after a lengthy "lay-off" ! Now that I see them, it makes me all the more motivated !

I wish that I would have jumped on before dinner- I would have made one of those sandwiches-That combo sounds wonderful!

I'm aiming for 40 minutes of taebo tonight (I am slowly building my time back up to an hour).

Nurse Ratched, I love the quote about finding your life's work!
As always, thanks for a great thread!
