Wellness/Fitness thread 4/25/03

    I'm afraid I've got the spring allergy thing kicking up, so I'll try not to sneeze on the monitor lol. I note a lot of folks have been unwell with one thing or another (a lot of URI stuff, it seems.) What do you do when you just don't feel physically up to working out? Should you work out? Sweat it out and feel better?

    For the most part, no. A day of rest will not hurt a thing. Forcing yourself to work out when you're sick may just slow the healing process. I do try and work out when I've just got the sneezes and drippies from the pollen, but I keep it inside. Nothing like going out into the spore-filled air and breathing really hard lol.

    It's especially important to remember quality nutrition when you are sick. Unless it's a GI thing where you may want to restrict your intake of certain things, make sure you are getting plenty of fruits, veggies, and other food with lots of nutritional value to it. No empty calories needed - give your body some fuel to work with! Frequent small meals are best so as not to overtax your body with digestion of large meals.

    Stay well (and get your water if you don't already have it .)

    Starting the Atkins diet today Still running/walking 2 miles every day. I really would like to lose 10-15 pounds in a relatively short period of time. Hope this diet helps.

    Just got in from work, my "off day" from weights anyway. Plan to take it easy the rest of the evening. Weights again tomorrow.

    I'm doing a low-carbs things but not strictly following any particular plan. I'm trying to stick to less than 20 carbs/day (at least for the start) and drink LOTS of water. I've lost 4 pounds this week.

    I need to start exercising. Thus far, all I've done is sit-ups. I need to get out there and walk but....well, heck. I just hate exercise. Just hate it. I want to walk WITH someone and I want to avoid all these Pennsylvania hills!
