Wellness/Fitness thread 4/20/03

  1. Good morning!

Another beautiful day. Hubby and I went to the gym quite late last evening and I find I am better able to tolerate (read: force myself to go) at that hour. One of my favorite machines to use is the stairclimber - they have one of the originals that is literally 8 steps rolling around an axis and you cannot cheat. (For example, when you see people leaning over a stepper or holding themselves up with their arms, they are really actually decreasing the workload and shortchanging their efforts.) Whatever you choose to do, think of the best form to maximize your results. Even walking - is your head up, abs tight? Give yourself every opportunity to benefit from the time you are choosing to devote to your good health.

Thought about how we can start off the day with good intentions, and it may just go to pot from there. That's one main reason I prefer to exercise first thing - just in case I lose total control of my day lol. It's also a great reason to eat a healthy breakfast.

Here's a great way to get your oatmeal when it's too hot to cook oatmeal. The next week's recipes will be focusing on breakfast (whenever your breakfast time may be .)

2 cups oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
2 cups apple juice or apricot nectar
1-1/2 cups sliced fresh fruit (any combination of banana, peaches, nectarines or strawberries)
One 8-ounce carton vanilla low-fat yogurt (I use nonfat with fine results)
    2 tablespoons chopped nuts (optional)

Combine all ingredients except nuts; mix well.

Cover; refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.

Serve cold; sprinkle with nuts, if desired. Refrigerate in airtight container up to 4 days.

Don't forget your water as you are sitting here.

Enjoy your day no matter what you are doing. The plan here is to be off to work shortly, so I'll see you all this afternoon. Be good to yourselves!

Off to yoga this AM. The owner of the studio is opening up even though it's Easter. Went for a walk early AM last night.

Didn't get my walk or my workout in yesterday...where DID the day go! Its too wet right now, but hoping it dries up a bit so I can head for the vineyard this afternoon. Maybe I can get the kids to join me as well.

Probably won't get to exercising and diet will prob go out the window because today is Easter and I will be surrounded by sugary delights through out the day. Happy Easter everyone

doo-doo. I just posted to the wrong thread... posted to YESTERDAY'S. Didn't know there was one each day..shows how much I've been paying attention.

So can I join? Is this the Allnurses Fitness Program?

What are the rules/expectations? What do we do here? How does this work?

I want to join too. I'm doing pilates every other day and trying to walk everyday, so far so good but i really need the motivation i have seen here. Just reading that everyone is trying to be healthier helps me

Welcome! No requirements here - we just like to post on what we're doing for activity. I personally see it as an accountability thing for me - can't post if I'm not trying to live it . Also like to post healthy recipes, ask specific questions. talk about pitfalls and brainstorm about how to avoid them, and just support each other.

    Hope to see you here.

I jumped on the trampoline with the kids, does that count? (New present from the easter bunny!!)

Yes it counts! In fact, you get bonus points for activity that you also happen to like. (I would love to have a big trampoline - sounds like lots of fun .)
