Wellness/Fitness thread 4/9/03

  1. Good morning!

    I am counting the days until Sunday when it's supposed to be 70-odd degrees out. Bike riding has been temporarily curtailed due to the cold, but I am stepping up the gym stuff, and we dance most every weeknight at the studio. You wouldn't think so, but it's the slower dances like waltz that really work you.

    Do you have an activity that you REALLY enjoy - one that's exercise but doesn't feel like it because it's so fun? It's important to get beyond the feeling that exercise is drudgery. As you strengthen your body and start to look forward to moving because you can see the changes it makes in your well-being and appearance, then you become self-motivated. That is our goal - to make moving a natural and indispensable part of our lives, same as showering or eating.

    You can do it! Your friends here are so proud of you and your efforts!

    Recipe for the day:

    This is a great one - make ahead and no cooking!

    Black Bean Zucchini Gazpacho

    16 oz Spicy hot V8 juice
    1 1 pound can black beans, rinsed and drained
    1 medium onion, chopped
    2 large tomatos, seeded and chopped
    2 medium zucchini, chopped
    2 tblsp olive or canola oil
    2 tblsp white wine vinegar or cider vinegar
    1 garlic clove, minced
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp pepper
    1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

    In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.

    Nurse Ratched, that recipe sounds yummy!!
    I never stick to an exercise routine very well...But I was thinking
    along those lines to try to find something that is fun to do!!
    I've been bike shopping for awhile now, and I'm going to buy
    my bike today!! I also want to get a pair of roller blades. That's
    good exercise too!

    Tennis.

    I love to play tennis! Been so out of shape in the past, it's been painful to play (huffing & puffing from one end of the court to the other)

    But this year...since I've lost 30 lbs and continue to lose weight...I'm going to give it a try again!

    Now if the weather would only cooperate!

    Since my hubby doesn't like to watch most tv shows I do I went to the basement and my treadmill last night to watch American Idol. Walked on the treadmill the hour the show was on. Plan on doing that tonight also.

    jumping on my mini tramp while I watch TV. Walking with my sons is always fun, it's so cold again,tho! I always walk during thier various sports practices( soccer, right now) Sometimes I can get other Moms to walk with me. Beats sitting on the bleachers and snacking.

    update: I got my new bike today! Yay! I took a nice ride and
    it really is good exercise, considering how many hills we have
    around here!! I was definitely winded.

    Oh yeah, and I almost got in trouble in Wal-mart!! I was trying
    out the bike, and the lady asked me not to ride it in the store.
    I said "ok, sorry, I was just trying it out" She chuckled and said
    "yeah, but you don't have to try it out in the produce section!"

    riding my horse is good exercise and maybe now with the time change I can do it more in the evenings when I get off work. I'm still trying to keep the running/walking 2 miles every other day up too. That recipe sounds great. It is very similar to one I was thinking of posting here too. Hope these pounds start coming off pretty quick. I gained about 25 pounds a little over two years ago when I quit smoking. They keep following me aroundl though

    I am going to the gym everyday and walking.....have lost 13 pounds since Jan 28th......it's called the divorce diet....LOL

    hmmm If I went on the divorce diet I would look over 200 pounds !!! LOL
