Wellness/Fitness thread 4/8/03

  1. Ack - had this all typed out and then got "illegal error" and lost it, so here goes again .

Went to the gym quite late last evening and actually got in a decent cardio workout, so I have proven to myself I CAN do it late, it just takes that much more self-motivation.

You all know yourselves best; be honest with yourself when you get up as to whether or not you will be able to kickstart later on if you don't get exercising out of the way first thing . Remember: this is for you. Don't shortchange yourself with excuses. I find it's best for me never to miss more than one day in a row. If I miss two, then three starts to look easier to skip. Don't berate yourself for lapsing - what's the point in that? Just jump back in! Congrats to those who are "back on the horse" after slipping. We've all been there. To quote a neat lady, "You are not behind!" This is not a competition with anyone but yourself .

    Your recipe for the day:

    Herbed Lime Chicken

1 16 oz bottle fat free Italian dressing
    1/2 c lime juice
    1 lime, halved and sliced
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    1 tsp thyme

Combine all 5 marinade ingredients in large ziploc. Reserve 1/2 c marinade and refrigerate separately. Add 4 boneless skinless chicken breat halves to bag. Seal, turn to coat and refrigerate for 8-10 hours.

Discard marinade in bag. Grill checken breasts over medium heat or broil 5-7 minutes each side, basting with reserved marinade halfway through.

"The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind."

    William James (1842 - 1910)

Yummy! I am definately going to try that recipe!

Well..day 2 of the time change kicking my butt. Couldn't get out of bed this morning again to workout & it really ticked me off. I just have to get through this & let my body adjust to the time change I guess. I have a hard time working out at night because it re-energizes me...and then I can't sleep!

Early to bed tonight...gonna try this again in the morning!

I plan to walk later today. Is any one else affected the way I am by daylight savings time? Every time there is a time change(fall or spring) I am tired for at least a week. It affects my kids this way, too. The chicken looks great, I love anything with limes. How is everyone else doing?

I'm almost grateful not to live where daylight savings time isn't observed. I don't recall especially having problems with it, but I know the older I get, the more careful I have to be about not disrupting my sleep schedule too much. Harder to bounce back now . I suppose DST isn't dissimilar to jet lag.

(The only really bad recollection I have of DST was when I would work nights and had to be there an extra hour during "fall back" time - and the clocks went back at the worst time of the night - 2:00!)

    Additional stuff:

Do you have your water in hand if you're reading this?

There are some great buys on fruit this week in our area grocery stores. That's one of the best things about this time of year as far as I'm concerned. Treat yourself and cut up a bowl to snack on. Last evening, I wash a bunch of grapes and cored and sliced some strawberries to have on hand. So much easier to eat healthier when it's as convenient to grab fruit or veggies as it is candy.

    Keep up the great work!

Have been running and walking 2 miles every evening when I get home from work. I am finding I can run more than I walk now and my leg muscles aren't as sore as they were 2 weeks ago when I started. I am trying to watch what I eat too. I want to be slim and somewhat trim for my sons high school graduation next month. I've been tanning too to try to get a healthy glow The chicken recipe sounds great!! Hubs and son will love it

I just joined a local health & exercise club. Hubby said he will go with me as he wants to start weight-lifting again. The only thing is, I am having ortho surgery on Monady and will not be able to start the exercise club until I am out of a cast. The club was nice about this and allowed me to pay the reduced "sale price" special they were running but postpone the membership until I am able to physically start. I need to firm up and lose another 30 lbs or so. I also want to build up my shoulders and firm my abs and butt.

    Thanks for the recipe!!!
