Wellness/Fitness thread 4/5/03

  1. Good morning! Stormed last night - perfect sleeping weather - hard to get OOB. Tried to use the excuse that my workout clothes were in the wash but, dangit, hubby actually independently moved things from the washer to the dryer last night and turned it on. Apparently he's onto my master plan...

Do you have your water as you're sitting here? Are you thinking about breakfast yet? What kind of fuel are you putting in your body to prepare for the day? Exercise is half the battle; eating properly is the other part. But the more you move, the more you'll want to increase your results by changing other lifestyle habits.

Today I am working at the hospital - lots of opportunites for adding in some activity especially since my unit is several floors up. No reason not to take the stairs. Activity is cumulative throughout the day, so anywhere you can add in a few steps will help .

Check in and let everyone know how you did today!

    Today I sucked.
We had an ice storm here last night so it was cold here this morning. I let the dog out and he is such an infant, he could hardly stand on the iced over grass and poop/pee. So we didn't walk at all. Instead I came in here, made coffee and starting surfing AllNurses.

But I decided I can at least do some indoor activities - like some Pilates moves. I do admit that I feel like crap when I don't exercise.

Totally agree that exercise is so crucial to feeling well. I am glad you started this thread, Nurse Ratched, because it reminds me I need to get off here and go to the gym.

The boards will keep, so off I go...

I hear pilates is a great work out. Do you have a tape to go by Susy? Maybe I should add it to my at home fat fighting aresenal.

Keep up the great work! Maybe I should look into pilates - it's kind of a yoga/ballet thing, isn't it - lots of stretching? I took yoga through the area parks and rec - it was great for relaxing, which is also so vital to feeling good. We are so often on overdrive at work, it's hard to tone it down at home.

Hubby has decided we're going dancing tonight .

    See you all tomorrow!

I once again skipped my regular workout but on the other hand I cut, loaded and then UNloaded a cord and a half of wood.
    AAARRRGH.....feeling stronger every day.

That definitely serves as a suitable workout. Been there. Stacking wood. Hardest job I've ever done, I think.

You gotta love that slimmer feeling, don't you? I'm getting it here, too. Sweat baths are good for the soul.

And the slimmer feelings also is a good excuse to buy new clothes!

    And the new summer swimsuit...

Swimsuit??? Let's not get carried away, now.

Thanks Nurse Ratched for the encouraging words. I appreciate the time you put into this. Today I sucked. I'm studying like a mad woman, and won't have time to do diddly.

OK, I'm just going to look at a few more threads and then I'm off to the basement to get my workout in!! ( I skipped yesterday) . I'll be walking on the treadmill and finishing my lower body wts-my upper body is a little tender from Thursday (still)... I definitely prefer working out at night- but would love some motivating tips from all of you early birds!!! Thanks for the motivation all!!

What do you think about sharing "healthy" recipes on here as an adjunct to our efforts-or would you rather "keep it simple"??!! Just a thought!

This thread is certainly timely...I just came back from the gym! I feel great!

I take a yoga class every Sunday morning, and usually work out afterwards. Ratched--some yoga classes are much more invigorating. The class I take is actually quite hard. You definitely use your muscles in it. AFter the first class I was sore for a week!

No, no now. Don't let that bad boy of an excuse sabotage your plans! I know it's tempting...I use it, too. But we all have at least a half hour a day to give to ourselves.
