Wellness/Fitness for 6/14-03

  1. Nurse Ratched,

    Been missing your Wellness/Fitness threads that you so faithfully post. Just finished saving all your yummy sounding recipes on my hard drive. Ran across your frosty mocha drink.....looks really delish!

    Well, I am getting ready to start working back out again and start eating healthy on a regular basis, AGAIN! (lol funny how it's always again ) Thought I would start out with my walking (yes...again...lol!) and try some yoga to increase my flexability and help stregthen my joints. After I get back in cardio shape, I'll venture back to my stair stepper and tae bo (I had such fun when I did tae bo). Time to break out the gatorade for muscle recovery and drink more water.

    Found a little recipe booklet in the store put out by SHAPE magazine....and Ratched's mocha drink made me think of a smoothie recipe in there. My daughter and I thought smoothies would be a better breakfast alternative to not eating or eating junk . Here it is and it is sooooo yummy, too!

    Banan-Mocha CappuccinoBanan-Mocha Cappuccino

    In a blender, combine 1 cup nonfat or lowfat vanilla yogurt, 1/4 cup brewed coffee (caffinated or not, hazelnut or vanilla flavored ), 1 banana, 2 tsp cocoa powder (unsweetened) and 2 ice cubes. Blend until smooth.

    241 cal, <1g fat, 45g carbs, 14g protein, 3g fiber

    Boy, did YOU just make a big boo-boo ! Now that you told all the world you're going to start excercising (AGAIN)...tsk, tsk... do you seriously think I'm going to not be checking up on you and simply hound you to death and make sure that you are? NO mercy... NONE !!!

    19 years ago when I worked for the state,we had to exercise every morning and run 2 miles before Breakfast.I was the first one who smoked cigs to finish every morning.We get season passes to the local water park.Swam about 100 feet the first day and thought I was going to die.Started exercising after that every other day.In High School I could swim a mile,now barely a 100 feet.UGH!Did'nt think I was that out of shape!May try a membership in a health club.

    I've been to Curves 4x this week and stayed "on program" (Weightwatchers online).

    Oh, I started a "diet" today! Actually, only have a couple of pounds to loose, but want to eat a healthy diet. Too much junk in my diet lately.

    Eating a nice bean and brown rice salad over fresh spinach for dinner.

    Went for a power walk with the dog this AM.

    I just keep gaining and gaining, was on weight watchers last year, and did well. They pulled it from our work site, and I have gained everything plus some since. I am due for my yearly at the doctor, but last year, she told me to lose weight. I can't go back until I lose at least 20, or I will catch H*** from her. I am sooooo unmotivated to work out. I would rather lay on the couch and watch t.v.

    Please, jnette......don't show mw any mercy. The good moral "support" (or is it harrassment??? ) will be good for me and lets me know that I have friends that support me .....besides...hehehehe check Ted's thread on the Masochism tango.....I love the pain (not!! )

    For the past 3 months I've been going to a place that is the same as Curves, but is not the same franchise. I was weighed and measured yesterday. My 3 months total weight loss was 16.5 lbs, and 9.25 inches. woohoo!!!!!! I've also been eating better since changing jobs, which helps.

    Also, I'd already been losing weight, mainly by eating better (smaller portions, less fat, etc) and in the past year have loss 54lbs. Over the past 2.5 yrs, have loss around 100lbs total.

    I am having fun buying new clothes, but I never want to buy too much, cuz I still have more to go!!! And it is indeed hard work!! This past week was tough......I had a lot of "bad eating". I never deprive myself, but I kinda went overboard. One day at work, we had one of our luncheons, you know-bring a dish-and ate way too much. I brough cut fruit and didn't eat any of it! I felt bloated and nasty all day! Ugh!

    But every day is a new day.

    Congratulations Sphinx,we could all probably use alittle of your will power.I'm not overwieght,underwieght by about 8 pounds.Just badly out of shape.Figured I was in better shape with all the hard work I do everyday,guess not.We should cheer everyone on here to try and live healthier and get into better shape.So everyone!1-2-3-4,1-2-3-4,Thats enough I'm tired Now.:chuckle

    Yaaaaaaay to us all who are trying to live healthier and keep our bodies in shape !

    Nursechris1... you'd be amazed how truly motivated you WOULD be once you got over the barrier and actually worked out a week or two..you would be WANTING to work out, I promise ! Because your blood gets pumping, as does the adrenalin, and you start feeling ALIVE again ! Your energylevels rise and so does the metabolism... no other feeling like it ! It's hard to get started for most of us, but once you do, you won't want to quit.. you'll feel like a whole different person.

    I'm like Untamed... her avatar depicts me to a tee. But I've aways been high energy, never could sit still even as a kid. I'm like that as soon as I hop out of bed..yes HOP, I don't crawl out of bed.. I wake up singing and dancing even at 0300.. and my coworkers HATE me in the morning ! Oh well.

    And yes.. those of us who are UNDERweight still need to work out. We get flabby, too, so we need to keep that muscletone, and the other health benefits that go along with it !

    That said.. I'm off to my bowflex !

    I walked 2 miles this afternoon.
    NurseChris...someone told me living in Nebraska was like living in the North Pole...is that correct? They said freezing wind 8 months out o the year and tornadoes and rain the rest of the time...could you possibley relocate to southern cal?

    Southern cal would motivate you....

    Jnette...I too have a bundle of energy...fortunately my hubby is the same too. How do you like your bowflex...keep seeing them advertised on tv? I have the Total Gym 1500 (Chuck Norris endorses this product), had for about 3 years now & still like it. However, I keep seeing the bowflex & I am really leaning towards getting one. But, for now I walk, do my Total Gym & love my Tae Bo....I really have a good time doing Tae Bo...I know I look silly doing the moves etc...but, whenever I am working out to Billy Blank's tapes...I always end up laughing at myself & having a good time too!

    Here's an easy recipe for a smoothie:

    one cup of frozen strawberries
    one banana cut up
    one cup of yogurt (I use the Dannon Vanilla)
    one cup of milk or you can use one cup of OJ instead..whatever you perfer.

    Turn your blender on for a couple minutes...and voila...a yummy healthy drink! ** Also, you can substitute any fruit you desire...my favories are strawberries & bananas.

    Enjoy! Oh, I also enjoy the fitness thread...let's keep it going!
