Well my smoke alarm works...that's comforting...

  1. What's upsetting is I wasn't testing it. I turned on the stove to cook, then said, naw I'll go to allnurses and cook when dear man wakes up, don't want to make much noise. Well, left the stove on and the lid to a pan on the burner and well the handle burned and the alarm went off, scaring dear man, myself and dear dog to death.

So much for letting dear man rest. It sticks to high heaven in here.

You guys are definately a bad influence. I take no responsibility. It is your fault. :roll :roll :roll :roll

Way to go 3rdshiftGuy. Okay so your aren't the greatest chef on the block and you can't even remember to turn off the stove. But at least you are here and we can laugh at (I mean with) you

I am always setting my smoke alarm off. But I can definitely say not for that reason. Glad you all are alright though!

HAs anyone ever been caught out by the little "chirping" noise going off? I tried for days to track down this little "chirp chirp" blamed insects, wiring, wires in the wind - finally found out it was the smoke detector signalling that the battery was nearly flat!!!!!

Mmmmm, burnt pot handle! Yum! Yum!

Gwenith, when I hear the chirp I KNOW its the smoke detector, the question is which one? We have 4 scattered about the house and of course they never chirp when you are standing there waiting! So we end of changing all of the batteries anyway!

Mine has been chirping for a couple of days now, but I did manage to get a new battery earlier today. And Tweety, don't feel bad, I've put pasta on to boil and because I've gotten so engrossed in reading or replying to someone the water all evaporated and the pasta was burnt. Totally forgot about it until I smelled it burning.

I can never figure out which one is churping either. About 3 years ago our house caught fire after it was hit by a tornado. The house was not too bad after the tornado, so we were sleeping there. We had smoke detectors but none went off. None of them had batteries. Now to say the least we have 7 smoke detectors and one chirps I just go buy a bunch of 9 volts and change them all.

Funny tweety . . .I need to get to bed and probably have that song in my head for awhile. :roll

I have burned food on the stove also while perusing allnurses. My husband thinks I'm addicted . . .

Our one smoke detector's battery is dead . . . yikes. Thanks for reminding me.

    1:45 a.m. is coming up fast . . . gonna try to hit the hay . . . "burning down the house" . . . . arrggh

Yep, made some stir fried tofu and it was quite yummy. The smell of the burned lid lingers......
