Weight Loss

  1. Inspired by Vegas' new health conscious life style thought maybe we could start a support group for weight loss. I know many of us included being more healthy or loosing weight as a New Year's Resolution. I know I haven't been working towarnds it.
Tonight I signed up for WW on line. Has anyone else tried it online before. I have done the meetings before and it worked great--Lost 20 pounds. With my schedule and working nights getting to meetings is a little more challenging though. So I thought I would try the online thing.

Started walking with my fiancee. Got to start watching what I eat though.

So if anyone has tips that have worked for them please share.

finallyRN, I don't have any great tips but my Mom and a Sister have been doing the WW with great success, they also walk every evening. They aren't doing the online program.

I bet the online program would work just a well.

"Eat to save your life". That's my inspiration. Not following any special diets, not counting any calories, just eating to save my life and all that it entails. It has not been difficult at all.

My doc also let me try Xenadrine. I must tell you that it is working. So far I'm sticking with 1 capsule in the morning, 1 capsule in the afternoon and for the last week I've been eating 90% LESS that I have since I was 6 years old, probably.

Only problem right now is my blood sugars are in the high 200's. I attribute that to the Lasix and not taking in enough water to keep a balance. I should probably start tracking my own I & O. Still using the sliding scale for Humalog and restarted 20 NPH in the morning and the evening. I'm willing to bet that once I get a good hydration balance the sugars will be more accurate and not reflecting a dehydrated status.

Have not experienced any side effects from the Xenadrine. Thank goodness.

I love your idea of a support thread. My hope is that a year from now I can post a great BEFORE and AFTER picture.

    Hi all,

I'm currently doing the WW points program. It worked really well for me while I was on it.

Anyhow, I started the program again on my own, and some tips and ideas will help me too. I even have a restaraurant guide and several WW cookbooks.

PM me if you like, those of you on a weight-loss program or just plain needing some support; I'll be happy to share!

PS: Vegas, I'm adopting your mantra--

"Not eating this will save my life,"

"Eating small portions will save my life,"

    and

"Exercise is good; it will save my life."

I, too, am trying to lose weight. In the past I have focused way too much on food and how much I was eating instead of what I was eating. Ask me two months ago and I would say that I ate well, but needed to eat more fruit and vegetables. Now, I say that diet was terrible because I ate nothing but carbs. My meals now consist of an occasional slim fast on my way to school. Lots of fruit and fresh veggies. I have become very creative with creating different salads. I have cut out all snack foods out of my diet and no longer buy all of my food at one time for the month. I go to a vegetarian supermarket for veggies and fruit, Albertson's for meat, and Safeway for misc. This keeps me from buying junk. I also have started working out 4 days a week for about 1.5 hours at a time. I absolutely love it. My butt is actually taking on a round shape, something that has been foreign on my body for about 5-6 years. I have muscles beginning to form all over my body. It is incredibly neat, because I started noticing results after about 2 weeks. Kicker is is that I haven't really lost a whole lot yet. In about 5 weeks, I have lost only 4 pounds. However, at this point I don't care, cause I feel pretty good.

Let us know how you progress with the program. I think a weight loss support system is such a great idea. I decided to get serious about losing weight because of nursing school. I saw my own mortality in my patients because though I am slightly overweight now, but feel healthy, what will I be like in 20 years. Especially since cardiac disease and cancer runs in my family.

I have started a plan also.
Working out 6 days a week.
3 days on the eliptical trainer and
    3 days free weights.
    one day a week off
    I hope it helps me.

I'm not sure what has gotten into me.
I just know I am can't go on like I have been and expect to live forever.
Thus the quitting of the tobacco and the getting into shape.
It should do me some good if I live through it.

I'm with y'all! I just said to my honey the other day, that I was going to stop focusing on food, and eat to be healthy. I am still watching my carb intake and trying to eat enough protein. And increasing my excercise. HRH Miss Murphy Brown appreciates that part!!!

I also forgot to mention that I am cutting down on carbs, as well. And increasing my protein slightly because of my exercising. The exercises I am doing are weights, bike, jogging, Pilates (flexibility is increasing and legs have toned up quite a bit from this, I think) as well as using a body ball for crunches and situps.

Anyways, just had to add since I am hyped up on this right now.

I joined a womens workout 2 weeks ago, need to start watching what I eat better, feel better already, more energy, aches and pains starting to disappear and be replaced by new ones(the ones in the muscles I havent used forever! LOL). Making small goals to achieve. I have a long term goal but am trying to break it up into smaller goals. Have been overweight most of my life and have terrible gene pool! (heart disease, htn, diabetes). One day at a time.
