WEDNESDAY 28th December, 2005

  1. cooee! g'day everyone how is everyone? did you all enjoy christmas? haven't had a chance to read any posts, so am not up to date with the news etc.

it's wednesday early evening here in oz, so thought i'd "return to work" and get the thread started!

we enjoyed a pleasant christmas day. weather was mild, dry and not as hot as predicted. the restaurant was great, food delicious, wine very delicious, and a good time was had by all. :smiley_aa

i've been receiving lovely cards from the allnurses members and it's been wonderful! thank you! :kiss
it's really added to the joy of this special time.

as arranged, i saw the specialist on my birthday, (22nd), he diagnosed that i have gastric reflux, which is causing the asthma to flare up!!!! who would have guessed??!! i certainly did not. while the original chest infection had cleared up, the continuing coughing, which sometimes led to me vomiting! the wheezing, plus all the other symptoms etc, were being wrongly treated!!! no wonder i was so ill for so long!
anyway....... i'm now taking nexium 40mg, and motilium. have the bedhead raised, no tea, coffee, chocolate, garlic, etc, no food or drink apart from water, for 4 hours prior to bed. see the specialist in 4 weeks for a review and will take it from there.
in this past week of this treatment and meds, i'm beginning to "turn the corner"! praise the lord!
    it's been a long 10 weeks!

managed to enjoy my birthday dinner at a seafood restaurant with the family and dd's boyfriend. the food was wonderful!
unfortunately, i wasn't up to the planned 30th wedding anniversary celebration, ( 20th dec), so had to cancel that. never mind, we can have a belated celebration once i'm really feeling 100%. i'm just so glad to be starting to feel better, at last!
overall, this christmas 2005 was a mixed bag, but looking at the positives, pretty good, mate! there's always someone, somewhere, worse off than ourselves!
hope everyone is well and happy.
    enjoy your wednesday! :santa1:
    cheers from "down under!"

Mornin Grace!! Gosh I hope you get to feeling awesome with the meds straightened out!

I'm still up, haven't gone to bed yet, 'cause I had a nap. ~grins~ Darn those naps! Yesterday was boring, which is peachy keen with me. Mostly spent the day playing with the kids (Chutes and Ladders!) and got some reading done in my History course. I'm enjoying it but dragging heels with it for some reason!

Hope you all have the most wonderful of days!

    good morning all

Had a nice couple of days relaxing and catching up on stuff, back to work today. Been snowing overnight but not too bad although in some places in the UK they have had it bad. The only thing is now cos we don't get the snow like we used to people forget how to drive and accidents just go through the roof as everyone thinks they can still drive high speed in poor road conditions then blame the councils for not doing anything about it when they probably been up all night gritting the roads (off soap box)

expecting not too bad a day at work but think the doctors will be busy as we have been shut for 4 days and people go into withdrawls if they don't see the doctor for something

catch up later, can't believe 11 pages to yesterdays thread going to take me ages to read all that

There you are Grace! I missed you! I'm glad that you're health is back on track though.

You haven't missed much. Siri is still trying to start fights around here. We need to do something a 'bout that woman. She's getting out of control.

One of my nieces, Kennedy, walked on Christmas Day. She walked clear across the room. Most babes when they take their first step realize what they are doing and get all bugg eyed. Not her. I don't think she realizes what she's doing. Emma didn't want to open any of her presents but she sure liked to open mine!
I really tried to get some pics of my nieces uploaded. I just couldn't make it happen. I read the thread on how to get pics in your posts but that didn't help. I signed up on photobucket but couldn't get any pics downloaded there. It's probably my slow dial up. Frustrating because I want you all to see how adorable they are.

Just got home. I am soooo angry! My grandpa moved in and am feeling a little smothered. So I decided to take a drive down to the Ohio River and sit there for awhile. I needed gas so I stopped at a station. Not having enough cash on me to fill it up I used my debit card. Went in to pay and it refused my card. Here I am pulling out my other 2 credit cards. All refused. Attendant treated me like I had the bird flu. Eventually I counted pennies to pay. So embarrassing. Anyway, before I leave the gas station I call the numbers on the back of the cards. I am grossly over my limits!!!! News to me since I'm always well under. I cancelled all my cards. I'm guessing someone stole my numbers -- and one card has a very high limit-- as in I could buy a nice car with this card!! School starts in 2 weeks and I won't be able to buy books if I don't figure this out. I'll have to cancel my classes. The one card with the big limit is my emergency card. I cannot believe this. I'm a CNA and am by no means even remotely wealthy. Heck, I can't even afford to move out of my parents house. I cried all the way home. Cried so hard I missed my exit and ended up in Kentucky -- far from home. When I saw the "Welcome to Kentucky" sign I about sh*! my pants. I need a drink. I have no money and payday isn't for another week. I have nothing. Cheerfuldoer and me are in the same boat. At least she has a positive attitude.

I want everyone's opinion on something: I'm only going to class one day a week (taking 3 classes, one internet) and was wondering if I should take PCA courses (pt. care assistant). In Indiana and Ohio they can do catheters, blood draws, ekg's, etc. Do you think I should do it or not? I'm taking micro, intermediate algebra and lifespan development. Think a normal person can handle that and PCA classes? With my gramps here I don't want to spend alot of time home.

Sheesh, this is a long post. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday -- and don't end up in the wrong state!

Good morning, even though it is still Tuesday night in my part of the world. Christmas was lovely here, a beautiful day and very relaxing. I had to work this morning, but have the rest of the week, plus next Monday off. Rain is predicted this weekend, so I want to be sure to enjoy the sunshine while it's here.

    Good Morning y'all -

Grace, sooooo nice to see you posting. Was getting worried about you, knowing how rotten you'd been feeling. Sure glad you got the diagnosis straightened out - I never would have suspected GERD. Hope the meds help and you get to feeling 100%.
Happy you guys had a good Christmas, and birthday (a very belated Happy Birthday! ). Also congratulations on your 30th anniversary. That is quite an achievement, if you ask me! Hope the new year is good to you!!

Cats, know what you mean about naps. I slept in really late yesterday and now will probably be wide awake for hours yet. The history course sounds interesting.

Anna, imagine you are still trying to make your way through yesterday's 11 pages! Hope work is slower than you expect today. And that the weather clears up. Watch out for all those maniacs who think they can drive 110 km/hr. on icy roads!

Bethin, your neices sound adorable. Don't worry, we'll wait patiently to see their pics.
All three of your credit cards were way over limit? Yikes!! Glad you at least had enough pennies to pay for the gas or they'd probably still have you pumping gas to 'work' it off. Hope you get it all figured out, and are able to use your cards for school needs etc.
As far as the PCA course goes, only you know how much time and energy you have left after doing your other classes. Do PCA's make significantly more money than CNA's? BTW what classes are you taking? Are they things like chemisty? or perhaps easier things like psychology? Good luck in what ever you decide to do, and hope you can manage to get along with Gramps. Is he driving you crazy already?

MTP, enjoy your mini vacation - and the sunshine. We have rain now but expected to clear up for the weekend.

I've been trying to pay a bill online, but have managed to already forget my user name and/or password to the account I just set up a couple of weeks ago. This is the same account to which I lost my ATM card the day after I got it. Not an auspicious beginning, huh?
Have lots of errands to run today, and that dang job interview as well. Please, will y'all cross your fingers for me? Thanks.
As this is turning into a novel, will sign off for now and see y'all later in the day. Gonna go have a Beth, wanna come join me?

Am making sausage plait for tea tonight - it's sausage meat wrapped in puff pastry http://www.schwartz.co.uk/recipedetail.cfm?ID=1420 I serve it with buttered cabbage and mashed potato... mmm I am really hungry now, going to make food. See you later!

Good morning family. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I know I'm late in getting around to this, but I have not had my computer on in about 6 days. I've been down with something. High fever, weakness, loss of appetite. Don't know what it was. But kind of missed a lot of Christmas. Good thing I was called off of work last night. I came back home and slept an additional 12 hours and this morning I feel 500% better. So, I guess I need to hit the stores and do the dreaded returns.

Let's see if I can reply to everyone and not forget anybody.

Grace - So glad you are feeling better. Who would have thought asthma?

Cats - I know what you mean about those sneaky naps, but aren't they wonderful when we are sleeping?

Silverdragon - Stay safe in your nasty weather.

Beth - All I can say is :icon_hug: and :kiss What a mess. As far as the classes, only you know what you can handle. But whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best.

Mercy - Enjoy the sunshine. It's cloudy and cold here.

Weetzie - Best wishes on that interview. Let us know how you turn out.

Jess - I got a pile of laudry to do here to. Want to do mine?

Fonenurse - I guess I must be evil too. I have made my kids still practice their piano for an hour each day and they have had to read for an hour each day. Why should they veg out just because they don't have school?

Well, everyone have a wonderful day and stay safe!

    Good morning.

Nothing special happening today. No work and no school! Woot! I'm loving it. I've got 3 12-hour shifts in a row this weekend, so I'm enjoying a nice stretch off.

Grace, I don't think I could live without coffee, chocolate or garlic.....no way.

good morning all ya'll sweetie pies!

grace! i am sooo very glad you posted. we have all been so worried about you. ge reflux, huh? well, that definitely will do it. do they plan an egd anytime soon? just wondering. {{{{hugs}}}} to ya, hon.

hi, fonenurse. too early in the morning for me to think about cabbage. but, the sausage wrapped in pastry does sound good. hope you have a good day, dear.

hello, cats. i never played that game. but, candy land. oh, yeah.

hi, jess. so, enjoying that free time? when do you start back?

good morning, tweety. sounds like you are really enjoying your time off this week. good.

hi, cardiacnurse. i was a tyrant with the practice sessions, too. i mean, i had to practice 2 hours a day growing up.......i was a little better with my kiddos, however.

mornin', weetziebat. good luck with your interview. fingers crossed here.

hi, mercy. good to see you today. enjoy your week.

hello, [color=olive]silverd. i just wish we had a little cold weather here. it's been in the high 70's this week and i hate that.

morning, beth. ouch! i am so sorry that happened to you. if your cards numbers were stolen, you need to stop/refuse payment and report as a stolen card. call all those credit card places and see what your rights are there. good luck.

    i will check on all ya'll later.:kiss

    Good morning, everyone.

Grace, I'm glad you got a diagnosis and treatment that's helping you.

Bethin, when you cancelled the cards did you report them stolen? Try to remember the last place you used each one. You won't be liable for the amount after that.

Everybody else, have a great day.

Not much going on here. Trying to do some serious puppy training and getting zero help from the rest of the family. Well, actually DS is somewhat helpful.

    Take care.

    ~Kat
