Water Chestnuts

  1. OK, so I've come to the conclusion that my mother only cooked a very limited variety of meals. Not very wordly, ya know?

They're always making fun of me at potlucks at work because I'm in in awe of some amazing creation that I've never eaten before.

This week? I have this new fasciantion with water chestnuts. So I'm basically trying to build several new meals based on my new love for these.

    So share with me!

What I'm most interested in is making my own sweet & sour chicken. Not some canned sauce, the real thing. Does anyone have a good recipe? What kinds of stuff do you put in yours? (besides the water chestnuts, of course)

Wrap bacon around them -- well maybe that's not a meal, but tasty.

Use them in stirfry or rice dishes.

Whoops, reading skills not what they should be.

Kick azz sweet and sour sauce. Not for the weak hearted. Put in saucepan on medium (I invented this so don't ask me amounts pleeze) -- jalapeno jelly, cooking sherry, rice vinegar, corn starch. Add brown sugar to taste. simmer to a boil till thinckened.

When I'm looking for a new recipe I do a recipe search. I have gotten a lot of interesting (and good) recipes this way.

Spinach Dip recipe is on the back of the Knorr vegetable (soup, dip, and recipe) mix box. It is so good...and even better when it is chilled overnight in the fridge. Yum-Yum!!!

ACK! This exact same recipe was suggested by a coworker! (THAT was the new and amazing thing I ate at the potluck!)

I was looking for it today, but it was a different Kroger and things were just a little backwards and the kid was trailing along inpatiently behind me.....

So Adrienne... it's sweet and sour and spicy? :chuckle

Thanks for the links Bob! You can come over for a turkey/water chestnut dinner anytime!

I think I may have eaten those bacon wraps once too. Do y'all put some kind of sauce on them? I think these had some kind of sauce on them (it was red - maybe it was sweet & sour).

Heather, I think my SIL adds grape jelly to those bacon wraps, not sure what else, maybe BBQ sauce, worchestershire? Crock pot.
