video cheat results in pop up hell

  1. I got a video game from a friend of mine and it is driving me mad. Darkfall, if anyone's ever heard of it. Well I got stuck and tried to go to a cheat site, and now I am in pop up hell- I can stay online for about 30 min before I get drowned completely, and some of these pop ups won't go away, others keep changing my home page.

I've gone to anti-spam and pop up sites to get rid of them and the problem gets WORSE, with more and different ads. They've rearranged my desktop, and I have over a thousand cookies that I have to delete one, by one, by one....

Does anyone know where I can get help, not more advertising, and not have to take my computer for an exorcising.

I've heard you can reset you conputer to all the settings you had a week ago. If true, that would do it for me, and I promise never to go anywhere but allnurses again.

How does one stop the dam pop ups? Mine started about 2 wks ago & just getting worse. So invasive, really should be illegal. I will never buy from anyone that advertises on a pop up. Please let me know if you figure out how to get rid of!! Thanks.

What operating system are you on? e.g., Windows, a Mac, etc? (per DH, my personal computer guru)

I was having the same problem and downloaded Ad-aware, a free program (I can't remember the website where I found it, but a google search should work). This fixed the problem. Some of the pop ups I was getting were totally inappropriate for my children and it was getting to the point where the ads were hijacking my computer everytime we went online. Anyhow, now I run the program once a week or so and I've had almost no problems with popups since.

This is one of the thngs the blaster worm does, if you haven't already done this, run a virus scan asap. my son kept ignoring this problem on his computer and now he cant even turn it on.

DH says if your computer is programmed to make regular back-ups, go to START, click on Accessories, then on System Tools then System Restore. Let us know progress.

What's the difference between a hacker coming into my computer to plant code and these people who plant code on my hard drive that brings up all these pop-ups? Why isn't this illegal?

I agree, Ned. Total invasion of privacy, imho.

Also might want to look into "add/remove" programs to see if something has been downloaded that you can remove.

    www.adaware.com

My friends, that is the answer to popup/spyware hell.

and it's perfectly legal for them to load spy/ad ware on the computers cause often when we use their sites we give permission in VERY VERY FINE print in our use of them. read fine print in ANY agreement you approve as you use various cheat/music/entertainment sites. it's there....you give consent by using their product/site. (e.g. by signing a "yes" agreement prior to entry or concerning their copywrites, etc). NOTHING illegal about what they are doing but it's sure a darn site annoying!

use the above software and life will be good again!!!!

    over n out......
