Veterans Day

  1. To our vets here at Allnurses, and to all veterans across this land, I want to take this moment to thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

Regardless of our individual politics or stand on past or current wars, may we always honour our veterans and give them the respect they deserve.

Remembering our veterans on this day... I salute you.

Let those who come after, see to it that these names be not forgotten,

For they who at the call of duty, left all that was dear to them,

Endured hardships, faced dangers, and finally passed out of sight of men,

In the path of duty and self-sacrifice,

Giving their lives that we might live in freedom.

    Wow. Only two responses........... :stone

Roy.. it appears the hundreds and hundreds of thousands who have served this country so well, are indeed being rapidly forgotten.

This day of rememberance and thanks has become nothing more than just another day off at the shopping mall...............

What about our fathers, uncles, bothers, sisters..
    Surely they deserve better?

Thanks to all veterans, and their families too.

They've made so many sacrifices for every single one of us. In ways I know I can never, ever repay. I do salute them.

(Jnette I think one reason there are few responses is that this is a premium member forum isn't it? and not too many people come to this one...?)

I just now saw this, jnette.

Goodness, I would never forget the ones who have so courageously served our country.

My own father, who is no longer with us, served in WWII. He was wounded while serving aboard a ship in the Pacific. Received the Purple Heart, one of my most prized material possessions.

Thank you. I'm a US Navy vet, married to an Air Force retiree. Both of my parents were in the military and my father-in-law also.

Love working in a VA hospital, to care for our vets. The past two weeks the volunteers sit behind a table in the lobby, donation jars at the ready . . . and we get a little forget-me-not (get it? ) for our lapel. I love my forget-me-nots each year.

    Thank you, veterans.

(thanks for the thread, Jnette; I don't often cruise thru Current Events area; am not good at debate. )

    Thank you, veterans!
    Thank you Jnette

Please join the 1.8 million members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in honoring our military men and women, past and present, on this Veterans Day.

Disabled American Veterans is a wonderful organization. They make volunteering easy. Both tayloring activities to what the volunteer enjoys and scheduling when the volunteer is available make them a great organization for those who want to help.

They aren't wimps either. They are not afraid to stand up for veterans:

You are absolutely correct, Rayrae.. I hadn't thought of that !

And Space, thanx for the links.

Disabled Vets is one of my favorite places to donate and do so regularly.

The WWII Memorial in DC is absolutely awesome if anyone gets up there and hasn't yet seen it... it's a must ! As are the other memorials.

We don't have that many WWII vets left... kinda sad, isn't it?

Thanx to those of you who responded. This issue is one which is close to my heart. Our vets so deserve to be recognized and honoured.

I just have to add how proud I am of my husband. In our town, there wasn't going to be a Veteran's Day parade because the people that had done it before were getting too old. So...my husband jumped in, organized the entire thing from start to finish and received richly deserved praise. Thanks Rich - I'm so proud of you!
