Oh my, hopefully not a terriost attack.
I haven't heard anything on this yet. What type of power plant?
    Electric, gas, nuclear?

They are saying they don't believe that it is a terrorist attack.

I would be totally freaked out if I was in the subway system right now stopped with no power. They are saying that some of the cell phones aren't working either. Hope that people stay calm and not let fear get the best of them.

Just got back from watching 2 news stations on the outage. It seems at this point they feel its not to be terrorist attack. Just a blackout. Who really know the true story????
I know that in our area, it not unusual to have blackouts during the summer months. Too much strain/drain on the powerplants can cause them to go down or to have a problem generating the power. I wonder if maybe a generator overheated etc....
Luckily, we have power here in Mass. Hope the other folks get theirs back soon.

Well if it isnt terrorism my worry is that they may use this opportunity or that it will give them ideas.

Pretty scary, it is BIG. So far Pittsburgh is not affected. However, some places north of us are down. The govenor better declare a state of emergency NOW. Tomorrow should be declared an unofficial holiday and all non emergency business and schools should shut down. Why! to reduce the drain on the grid that is why.

Wow, ya'll are fast. I was just going to post a thread on this !!
It really is terrible. Best wishes to all the east coast nurses who are affected. They said that only one hospital in NYC was w/o power and that was one in Brooklyn.

So far in Jersey everything is fine, we had a bit of a brown out but power still going at this hospital and at home. i was stuck in an elevator once for about 35 min and had to climb out the hole in the roof but that was only three floors up...I would freak if it was 75 floors up or if I was stuck in one of the tunnels that are under water, yikes.

This stuff happens when we drain the power too much, I go along with it not being terrorist activity, we've done this to ourselves before...then again I've also been wrong before as well.

Our power goes out here every month or two. It's really no big deal. Just light some candles and cook on the BBQ that night.
If it's hot they'll have to live without the air conditioning for a bit.
I'm sure all the hospitals have generators. I think it's a law. If not it sure is common sense.

We have our power back already only out about an hour. My laptop battery didnt stay charged that long bummer. But everything is back up and running. Sure makes ya realize how dependant we have all become on electricity. Ok I am on medical leave and am bored so I will discuss anything. Off to find more to discuss.

I can't help thinking of the poor people trapped in the elevators and subway cars! Did you see them sweating in the cars?

I find it hard to believe that some form of terrorist isn't behind this!
