Upstairs neighbors - rant

  1. I am ready to go crazy! I have lived here for 1 1/2 years - and this is the first "problem" I have had! They just moved in last month.... and I have talked with them about all their noise - she was "nice" but basically blew me off. I have gone to the apts and they sent out a general notice to our bldg but nothing had changed - I called again today and am waiting for an answer. The lady has to weigh less than 90 pounds soaking wet but she STOMPS everywhere. They slam all drawers, cupboards and doors. The dog barks non-stop and they make some weird banging noises and do laundry after 11 pm. It sounds like a heard of elephants coming up and down the stairs. There are 6 families on this end of the building and I RARELY hear the others - along with the previous tenents. Glad my apt managers are real sticklers!

Its a really nice place and I LOVE it here - but this lady is driving me NUTS! .... oh well, I guess I'll start counting down the minutes until my lease is up in feb then I get my own house in Zimbabwe.....

ahhhhhhhhhhhh apartment life. i HATED it and am SO glad to be out.
we had nextdoor neighbors who had a collection of reptiles so big the whole place STUNK TO HIGH HEAVEN they even had a ******* CAYMAN IN THE TUB (yes you read right). they had AT LEAST 50 various reptiles and then a dozen or so spiders. It was disgusting.

People above me loved to do aerobics in their living room at 5 a.m. OH it was so nice hearing them jump about like that, sounded like hippo hurds running over head. And the music was just as annoying. When I politely told them how it disturbed me, all I got was a vacuous look and NO changes. these same folks loved to smoke on their balcony and dump their butts down to mine. It was disgusting. I also was very familiar with their sex lives and habits, way TMI for me.

People below me were a bunch of immature boy college students with WAYYYY too LIGHT school schedules and a stereo in EVERY FREAKING ROOM of the apt. Oh and they ALLL LOVED all rap with the BASS WAY UP!!! Used to wake up my daughter at 2 am with the noise in the bedroom below her or me, puking outside my bedroom window after a partying too hard too many times.

The folks behind me let their kids who were only 3 and 4 run the streets like gang members and they were really something. Throwin rocks at our cars, torturing neighborhood cats, etc. I was always afraid I would hit them with my car or they would be abducted. Cops did nothing.

It was such fun. I last one year and thank heaven we were OUT. I will NEVER EVER live in an apt again, IF I can possibly help it . It was hell. My heart goes out to you. They are not fit to live in, most of them, cause people are sooo rude.

At my apt., which had been pretty peaceful, late one night I heard a prolonged one-sided argument. The tenants in this one apartment had locked out an unruly guest, and he was banging on the door, to be let back in. He had no option, as he kept yelling, because the people in the apt. had his keys. I couldn't tell if he was drunk or not, because I would be just as peeved if someone had my purse or other possessions, and were trying to keep them from me. He yelled to them that someone would eventually call the cops if they didn't let him in--is that what they wanted? (So he knew what would happen, whether he had been drinking or not.)

So this continues and I call the cops. While on the phone, I hear a glass breaking. He had jumped over the hedges, onto their patio, to break a glass bottle (I guess to try to gain access back into the apt. through a window.) The police show up wearing gloves, and counseled the guy and the people in the apt. The next day there is what looked like a bloody smear on one of the windows. :uhoh21:

I think those people moved pretty quickly after that. I was glad, since they probably would have "made up" with that guy and had plenty more late-night disputes in the future. They were pretty young, and maybe they couldn't see the consequences of that behavior.

We are really lucky that we have a nice neighbor upstairs. Granted, her kids are crazy running around and such but we know what it's like so it's not a big deal. She is thinking of moving and we are very upset becuase you never know what we'll get in place of her.

Good luck with your neighbors. I would be complaining my head off...you pay good money to live in a nice place when renting and it is the landlords responsibility to take care of these problems.

Ooooohhhhhhh.............I lived in apartments for almost 20 years. Never again if I can help it. :stone

I once lived downstairs from a man who must've weighed 300# and moved with all the grace of a weary blacksmith. Every now and again I'd get fed up with the constant clomping sounds from upstairs and take my broom and thump it on the ceiling: FOOMP!FOOMP! That usually made him walk a little softer, at least for a while.......then I'd have to go FOOMP!FOOMP! with the broom handle again.

This is why I soooooo appreciate living in a house.......especially when the closest neighbor is more than 300 yards away!

Oh yes - the joys of apartment life. One of the reasons I chose to live here was because there were lots of "rules" and they were ademant that you follow them. The rules are really reasonable - more common sense than anything - pretty bad that you have to have them so others can have commonn sense! This place is supposed to be "upper scale yuppyville!"

Anyway - the apts are supporting me in this and hopefully it will stop soon.

I think what gets me the most is this woman is TINY - and I am, well lets just say, NOT! And yet no one has ever complained about me making noise. I was very conscientious when I frist moved in and took a proactive role with my neighbors - they all swear they never hear a thing. My neighbor next door, who while is really sweet, has 3 small boys who SCREAM all the time. We only share one wall so I very rarely hear them unless I am getting in my car - but anyway - they are still way quieter than the elephant upstairs!

I KNOW!!!! Why is it the big stompers are almost always the really tiny people. I'm 5 11 and I weigh 145 pounds but I NEVER stomp. Not like my sister. Ever here a gymnast walk upstairs from you? Elephant city. :angryfire
