upset about my dog.

  1. I know this is probably not the place to discuss dogs, but I just got home from the Vets. Seems my dog, ( part Border collie, part beagle) is septic. The Vet kept her overnight for IV antibiotics, and will do surgery in the AM. I knew she had not been feeling good for a couple of weeks, but never assumed her illness had progressed this far.

She has been drinking a lot of water for a while now, and urinating a lot. Even in areas she never goes, such as my living room. That should have alerted me to something. I thought she was just jealous of the cats or something. I would scold her and she would hang her head, and everything would be okay for a few days.

Yesterday, she was really tired and kinda lethargic. She was running a little temp, (her nose was warm). I gave her 1 tylenol and she perked up a bit. This morning she could barely walk. So I took her to the Vet. He said he temp was really high and she was passing a foul smelling drainage, which I thought was urine. Come to find out she has an infection in her uterus and is septic.

The Vet said it was touch and go for now and she might not pull through. She has never been spayed and never been pregnant. She is a house dog and a great watch dog. She alerted me to an intruder breaking into my home a couple of years ago.

I told my daughter I don't know how I could have missed this. I mean after all, I am a nurse. I am feeling so bad right now, and so sad. My daughter will be a basket case if something happens to her.

If any of you think like I do, that God takes care of animals too, please say a prayer for her. Her name is Freckles (Frex, for short). She is 10 1/2 yrs old and very special to me.

    Nursepenny,
I am a dog owner and lover too and I hope Frex will pull through. You should not feel responsible..you are a people nurse not a vet. Best of luck.

    Hi Nursepenny,

Hoping that everything goes okay with your dog! I totally understand. I had the same situation with my cat, when I did bring him to the vet they were able to help him and he is back to his old self.

    Take care,
    Kris

    Hi

I hope Frex will be OK. It seems that this always happens with dogs. We see the symptoms, but they just don't click with us. This happened to me in the past & just 2 wks. ago with my friends dog. It's not until after we get them to the vet that all the symptoms really just add up for us. Gosh, if only these little guys could talk and tell us!!

Good Luck!! I hope you let us know how things turn out/

Pyometria can be a very bad thing. I have seen dogs pull through and others pass away from it. Also be very careful about giving pets OTC medications. Just because they are okay for people does not mean that they do not cause toxicities in pets. I hope the best for Freckles.

I'm sorry to hear about your puppy dog! I have 3 and they get crazy sicknesses all the time. My little chihuahua had pancreatitis this past fall - I didn't know she was really sick until she was drooling excessively and shaking like a mad man. Dogs have a way of masking symptoms so it's not your fauly you didn't see the 'signs' - dogs are tough - they don't show you they are really sick until the are REALLY REALLY sick. Best wishes!

I hope that all goes well with your Frex. I, too, am a dog lover. We can get so attached to them. Wishing you, your daughter and of course, Frex, the very best wishes.

    Please keep us posted

:kiss ........that is for Frex. We have 6 furry kids, 3 dogs (maybe adding another one tomorrow) and 3 cats. One of our dogs, Zoe (Italian Greyhound) got really sick last spring. Fever and really high white count. We had to force feed her and gave her lots of medication and prayers. She got so sick that we had decided to put her down. The night before, I prayed like crazy......coz' I love that little dog and she gave nothing but love to us.......anyway, I asked God for a miracle and left her in His hands. I went on to work. It was saturday and my hubby was going to take her in, (I couldn't do it) and on the way home, hubby calls me......."I don't know how to tell you this"..........and I had to pull over I was bawling so hard. Hubby said, "No, no, it's not THAT.........she's getting better. She crawled all the way to our room". I couldn't drive fast enough to get home. She had been unable to even hold up her head.
God hears ALL of our cries and if He didn't love animals, He wouldn't have created them. I also believe that God will touch your precious Flex!!

I hope your dog pulls through. Don't fell bad, its not your fault that your dog got sick. Dogs can't tell us that something is wrong.

    ((( Hugs )))

We are feeling bad here too. We have been missing a cat for a few days. I won't search for her (pound, ad) because she just moved herself in a few months ago (probably dumped off), but she was a nice kitty. I feel bad thinking something may have happened to her.
