Update on my daughters "rock"

  1. Went to ENT today at 1 PM and he numbed the eardrum and all.....tried to remove, but it hurt her severely. Apparently when the ER doc and nurse did what they did they pushed the rock against the tympanic membrane or eardrum where it is pushing on the malleus and causing pain if touched. She is having surgery in the morning(hopefully)...he had his nurse call for scheduling OR and all and they said no. He called back(I was in the room behind them) and told them he had a 4 year old with a foreign object obstruction pressing on her tympanic membrane that needed to be removed ASAP.....that if the ER had called for a consult when we were there yesterday then we wouldn't be going through this right now.....he then told her she could schedule an OR or he would have me go to the ER with a note for direct admit to OR for foreign object removal. He was not happy at all.....so thats status. We go in at 6 AM and hope that they will let us do our surgery that morning...if not they are saying 4 PM.....I can't imagine my four year old NPO all day....children dehydrate so easily......anyhow, I am worried about hearing damage or something like that since it is where it is......will update everyone tomorrow after surgery and all.....

Suggest they start the IV early in the a.m., before she dehydrates and they have trouble finding a vein. Then at least if she goes in at 4:00 (HOPEFULLY NOT THAT LATE!!) she'll have been hydrated all day. Thoughts are with you. -- d
