Well, my Dad is still in the hospital but doing alot better. They still believe he has Diverticulitis. Yesterday was the worst, Lots of abdominal pain and he had ended up with a raging backache from the hospital bed. Not to mention that whenever he takes pain medicine such as Darvocet or Vicodin he gets MEAN AS A SNAKE!!!! He gets really sleepy, but doesn't want to go to sleep, didn't want us touching him or the bed, VERY short tempered. Also had not slept well in at least 2 days as well as no appitite so had not eaten anything and didn't feel like even drinking any water. They had him on Rocephin and Flagyl IVPB, but no IV fluids yet. By last night, he had started feeling better and had been able to eat dinner and today was alot better. He is expecting to come home tomorrow, but I think we will just have to wait and see what the doctor says. They may still need to do some more tests now that he is no longer having such pain. Does anyone know anything about the TX of Diverticulitis? Is this something that can cause him trouble in the future? Is it re-occurant? Is there a special diet we will need to give him when he comes home?

So sorry to hear about your father, but glad to hear he is improving. ((((((((((hugs))))))) to you both. :kiss
I found three websites of information on diverticulitis that may be of help to you and your family. They are:
Once at the Mayo Clinic site, you can look for the disease itself in its own category of advice.
Hope you find help at these sites! :kiss

Karalea, since cheerfuldoer already posted some very good websites, I'll just offer my ((hugs)). I have several friends afflicted with diver and it can be so uncomfortable. A carefully managed diet will make all the difference for your Dad. He will find out there are some things he just can't eat or face the wrath of the colon.
