Ugh!!!

  1. Why do things have to be soooooooo difficult... I am a nursing student (going into my last semester) and I also work as a PCA on an Ortho floor.. Well i am only working occasional status during school, well this summer I wanted more hours.. Well I was told by my Unit Manager that she had no more hours to give me, and that I could work another floor along with hers in order to get more hours...

So the Unit Manager from ICU said she needed a Unit Sec on the weekends during the day, so I was like ok.. I could do that during the day on Sat and Sun and pick up a day or two during the week on my Ortho floor... And everyone said OK...

Well I get a call today from the human resource lady who has been helping me with this telling me she just saw a request for me to be removed from my Ortho floor and transferred to ICU.. Well the lady calls me and tells me.. Needless to say I was SHOCKED and mad.. Cause I felt like I had been stabbed in the back just because I wanted more than 16hrs every two weeks... And the funny thing is I am being replaced by someone with PT hours, but she said she had NO more to give me..

So the human resource lady calls my Ortho manager and asks her what the heck is going on, and tells her that she has talked to me and I was upset, b/c I had planned on staying there, and even working there when I graduated from RN school in December, well next thing I know the phone rings... and it is my Ortho Unit Man.. She says she doesn't want me to go, that she wants me to stay...

So I called the ICU unit manager to find out what she had planned, and I told her point blank.. My loyalty is with the Ortho floor, the floor I have been on for a year.... She said she completely understood and for me to let her know what I can work..

So gotta meet with my Ortho Unit Manager tomorrow and sit down and try to figure things out...

GEESH.. Never thought it would be so hard to get more hours

Just curious....what is it about ortho that has attracted you??
I don't recall ever hearing someone say they had chosen ortho, although I am sure they do.

Hehe... You know I get asked that all the time..

I LOVE the people I work with, so it is more the staff than Ortho itself... We all work well together.. The RN's have no problem helping us PCAs with cleaning up a patient or anything.. And we have fun together, we laugh, play gags on each other... Its great... When I get pulled to other floors, I don't see this.. The RNs think they are too good to help, even the other PCA shrugs their shoulder and rolls their eyes when you ask for help.. They ONLY answer their call lights, whereas on our floor if you are near it you answer it...

Plus it actually isn't that bad.. Just alot of lifting and stuff...
