U.S. Postage Stamps...Up ..Up.. Up ! and Away !! Sunday..

  1. Mail rates going up Sunday. 37 cents a letter.

Wish they'd privatize the mail. As the population grows, the expenses are going to be outrageous.

In some countries, mail is delivered 7 days a week at your place of employment. There is a private mail room. I was thinking about how efficient that is. At the hospital where I work,, there's over 500 employees. Think of the time (hourly salary $$) and other costs incurred in paying a postal carrier to deliver mail to 500 homes vs. dropping off the mail at the hospital. And, of course, there are always the small private post office/mail box places available for those people who want a private box.

I read somewhere that the U.S. Post Office/Mail Service employs the highest number of people of any Federal Agency. They make good salaries too, good retirement and benefits. Our tax dollars...$$$.....Privatized, they'd earn half what they're getting now.

I say, Ha Ha nanny nanny on them! Online Bill pay through most banks is FREE now. No more stamps! And as the entire world gets online, email is it!
I know we will still need snail mail for some stuff, but as we get more high tech, their prices will continue to soar.

I assume that you are talking about places like Mail Boxes Etc. True, people can rent boxes there, but the mail is still delivered by the USPS.

Actually, the Postal Service is not funded by tax dollars. This is a common misconception. The PO operates only on the proceeds of the sale of postage. However, there is a plan to change the current stucture of the USPS, it isn't exactly privatization, but they will be able to generate profits which they are not allowed to do now. Also, under this new plan, the employees will still make the same $$ with the same benefits...

    Sorry to burst your bubble.
