Twisted Ankle

  1. Hey ya'll.. Well I did a good one... Went to take the trash outside and our driveway has a slight slant downwards and my ankle twisted and I hit the ground...

Not wanting to go to the doctor.. Is ice good enough for it??

You know the answer to that Nurses are SO some of the worst for saying do as I say and NOT as I do. If it was your family member what would you tell them?

Yes ice is good. SO is taking care of yourself and going to the DOCTOR little lady!!! Make the call and see the doc for x-rays.

Sorry to hear of your OUCH nurs2b.

    Remember RICE:

It is definitely a good idea to see the doc. I know of several simple "twisted" ankles where fractures showed up on x-ray. (been there, done that myself a few years ago). Even without a fracture, a little physical therapy is sometimes needed to regain full range of motion and to strengthen the ankle to protect it from re-injury.

I hope you mend fast :kiss

My goodness, don't go to the Dr. whatever you do.
Try ice, if the swelling doesn't go away for a few days don't worry about it.
You should be able to bear wt. in a week or so.
But DON'T see a Dr. (It's not that bad).

I wouldn't go to the doctor for a twisted ankle, just grab a tea towel and a bag of frozen peas, and sit and watch tv!

I would do the "wait and see" approach! Elevate and ice! If not much better by Monday then make an appt with your Dr.!

    Thanks everyone...

It hurts like heck, trying to figure out how I am gonna work for 8hrs on it.. Can't afford to call in an receive another point... Maybe they will just send me home..

If you have to call in sick I would for at least one day.....if the ankle doesn't get better and you go in to see the doctor and it has a fracture then they won't look so bad on you calling in sick. Ice, elevation, rest and someone to take care of you is the best....hope that your ankle gets better soon......

Well I just called work and I don't have to come in...

I work on an Ortho floor and of course they are trying to convince me to go get it checked out just incase there is a tiny fracture in it...

Would I still be able to bear weight on it if it was fractured?? The swelling has gone from one side of the foot all the way across the top to the other side... When my hubby gets home I might make him take me, just to get an xray an make sure..
