Truth in media? "vile propaganda outfit"

  1. O'Reilly purported to chart an intricate web leading to "vile propaganda outfit" Media Matters

Summary: On his Fox News program, Bill O'Reilly claimed that George Soros has built a "complicated political operation" in which "Soros and a few other wealthy radicals who help him are funneling money into the political process" by funding Media Matters, which "feeds its propaganda to some mainstream media people." In fact, Soros has never given money to Media Matters, either directly or through another organization.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Limbaugh also repeated his false claim that Media Matters is a "front organization for the Clinton campaign, bought and paid for by George Soros and the Clinton people." In fact, Media Matters -- which is a progressive nonprofit organization unaffiliated with any political party or campaign -- has never received funding from progressive philanthropist George Soros.

Limbaugh is the "leader" of the politics of polarization. These far right wing hacks have done so much damage to American politics.I think this has been sanctioned from the top and the voters have gotton very sick of this and the failed war, thus 2006. The ridiculous and irresponsible statements these shock jocks have been spewing, will be questioned more and more often and intelligent, thinking, American people just wont tolerate it anymore. 2008 is coming and I believe we will see a huge backlash for the politics and policies of the last 6 1/2 years.

Not to distract from the original intent of the thread but,

which is a progressive nonprofit organization unaffiliated with any political party or campaign
Launched in May 2004, Media Matters for America put in place, for the first time, the means to systematically monitor a cross section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation-news or commentary that is not accurate, reliable, or credible and that forwards the conservative agenda-every day, in real time.

I guess "liberal misinformation" is ok

Sorry Spacenurse - I detest Rxush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reily... but I would never in a hundred years consider Media Matters "not affiliated with any political party or campaign".

Their neo-liberal bias is simply too obvious to miss.

    cheers,

I agree that site is biased. They state it themselves.
    Where is the liberal misinformation?
I'm not saying it is not there, just that I see links, quotes and tapes.
I don't believe Media Matters is affiliated with a political party or campaign. Are they?

    THIS is true liberal media:

Did George Soros give money to Media Matters? I know I did not.
Lots of that site I can't access because I don't want to pay.

I think those radio hosts are afraid that one of their programs will be posted and will cost them advertisers.

Rush and Bill are right about Media Matters and George Soros.

I'm not crazy about Bill's demeanor on his show and disagree with him about some things (his views on the war in Iraq for one).

I agree with 99.999 % of what Rush says.

The media DID fall for the liberal gunman joke - I heard it.

Media Matters mis-reports things I heard myself ALL THE TIME.

Best I can figure out is it came from the Drudge Report.
From the little I know that report is sometimes right and sometimes wrong.
I don't know whether this is a blog or what it is - http://majikthise.typepad.com/majikt..._misleads.html

I don't understand how any news show or paper, or advertisement for a product or medicine can lie and get away with it.

Is there no law that lying ic not OK? Whether O' Reilly, Rush, or Media Matters shouldn't there be a requirement for truth?

And saying later after a hate filled untrue statement, "Just kidding." is not OK with me unless the show is clearly labeled "entertainment only"
I think joking about the most deadly school shooting is very very bad taste. NO I CANNOT AGREE WITH THAT! NOT FUNNY!
I hope no one listens to this stuff when kids can hear.

rush wasn't "joking" about a deadly school shooting . . he was talking about how he is misquoted by the media.

rush: now, do you remember back thursday, april the 19th, we were talking about the massacre at virginia tech? well, here's what i said. we'll go back to the audio sound bites. we'll just play this because i want to tell you it worked. the media matters people fell for it, and the drive-by media fell for it, and this is a perfect illustration of what i was talking about on that day and what this illustration was about. the critics of this program do not listen to it. they go to these "watchdog" websites that are bought and paid for by the democrat party (and the clinton machine in the case of media matters), and that's where they get what i said -- and then they take it, and they run with it as though some giant controversy has arisen when there is no "controversy." there was no "controversy" when i said what i said. here is the first part of this [font='times new roman']illustration.

rush archive: now, if this virginia tech shooter had an ideology, what do you think it was? this guy had to be a liberal. you start railing against the rich, and all these other things? this guy is a liberal. he was turned into a liberal somewhere along the line. so it's a liberal that committed this act. now, the drive-bys will read on the website that i'm attacking liberalism by comparing this guy to them. that's exactly what they do every day, ladies and gentlemen! i'm just pointing out a fact. i am making no extrapolation. i'm just pointing it out. i can tell you from the history of this program, starting way back in the early nineties, when there was any kind of an incident, crime or what have you, that attracted national attention, in the early days of this program, the drive-by media went out and they tried to connect the perpetrator to this program. they did everything they could. in fact, it went so far as bill clinton blaming me for influencing timothy mcveigh to blow up the murrah building. these are the people sponsoring lies and distortion for the purposes of dividing this country and creating hatred. there are just double standards all over the place, folks. i'm telling you, i'm fed up with listening to who it is that's supposedly coarsening the culture when i watch it on television every day, and i read it on obscure websites every day. these are the people that write books about how to assassinate george w. bush!

rush: sure enough -- sure enough, folks -- the drive-by media, national and local, across the fruited plain, are running with the story: "limbaugh calls cho a liberal."

so was he joking about how he set them up by saying "this guy had to be a liberal"?
of is this not him talking - limbaugh claimed media matters "fell for" his "liberal" gunman "joke" "hook, line, and sinker"
    http://mediamatters.org/items/200704230012

i clearly hear the word "joke" so what was the joke?

sorry i don't understand how a person with any sense of decorum or consideration for those whose loved ones were killed could make any kind of joke about it.
what is funny? how can it be funny to say, "this guy had to be a liberal."

it is even worse than making fun of michael j. fox's parkinsons movements.
    sorry not funny!

ps: it costs money to access anything on that site.

He wasn't making fun of Michael J. Fox. He wasn't making fun of the Virginia Tech shooter.

    Really.

Instead of listening to others say what he supposedly said, listen to the show.

I did - he didn't say what that wacky Keith said he said.
