REDLANDS Girl Scout cookie sales this year did more than just raise funds for the girls projects. They helped support members of the U.S. armed forces.

Girl Scout Troop 752 from the Redlands Service Unit sold Girl Scout cookies this month in front of the Stater Bros. market at 1536 Barton Road in Redlands.

Annual cookie sale proceeds provide funds for badge-earning activities, field trips and service projects in the community.

This year, as part of a program called Troops Supporting Troops, the Redlands Service Unit arranged to transport cookies to the armed forces overseas, or waiting deployment.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 752 received donations for 48 boxes of cookies for the troops.

People who purchased cookies for members of the armed forces were asked to sign their name on a star which will be attached to the cookie box.

Some citizens wrote short notes, such as Thanks, be strong, and Hope you enjoy and God Bless You.

This was a great opportunity for the local Girl Scouts to support the armed forces, said Paula Palacios, leader of Troop 752.

It is also a way of letting our armed forces know there are people at home who appreciate and support them, she said.,00.html
