Tournament of Roses Parade tomorrow morning!

  1. Since I only live 3 miles from Pasadena, the Rose Parade is, like, the topic of conversation around town here for the last week. People are flooding into the area to help get these floats decorated at their "secret" locations across the entire San Gabriel Valley area. These locations are not that secret, however. They just keep the floats in tents so the general public can't view them from the street. My sister-in-law was able to sneak into one area on Tuesday to look at some of the floats that were being worked on there. There will be some spectacular entries! It is raining here, and cold--go figure! It will probably be a dreary rainy day tomorrow morning as well for the parade. That's southern California winter weather. People are already lining up along Colorado Avenue in Pasadena to get a good place to see the parade. So, keep your eye out for our area's contribution to the holiday season tomorrow. It's just nice to look at some beauty for a few hours and renew our love of living after all the lousy stuff we see at work day after day. Hope you all watch and enjoy. After the parade, the focus, of course, will be on the football game.

My son goes to school in Azusa (APU), not far from you.

I lived in So. Cal most of my childhood and teen years and then again as an adult. Never went to the parade.

Don't blame you! It's a mass of people. There is no place close to the parade route to park! We've been thinking about going out tonight to watch the floats being moved into the starting area over on Orange Grove, but I'm thinking that there will be a lot of other people thinking about doing the same thing! I won't go out driving today or tomorrow if I can help it because the traffic is already bottlenecking up. The race track has been open as well and I have to get home using a back way because of the traffic jams on Baldwin when the race track is open.

Hey! You can answer a question that's bugging me about the parade. Why the heck is it tomorrow and not today on January 1???? Maybe I didn't pay attention the last time New Year's fell on a Sunday, but I don't remember the parade being delayed before.

I couldn't understand why until I saw the football games scheduled for today. They are all the professional ones. Guess they kicked out the parade and the bowl games, in favor of the profssional ones:angryfire

Steph, I've never been to the parade either, and have lived in this area 20+ years.

Every year the Eagle Rock Adventist church sells tickets for preferred seating, incl. continental breakfast and parking w/a shuttle over to the parade. If I went, I might arrange through them. Oh yeah, one year a friend got tickets through a special arrangement: they took the train in (from San Bernardino area, one hr east of Pasadena), got taken to their seats, got a box lunch, then got shuttled to the train station after the parade.

Ppl say it's spectacular to see it up close and personal.

I think historically it's never been held on a Sunday, out of respect for Sunday church-goers. I'd need to research that, to say for sure, though.

With all of the rain today, I feel like I am back in the monsoon weather that I had overseas. The Yorkies would not even go out, and they grew up in BKK.

Glad that I was planning on staying home today and tomorrow.

News right now is saying 4 to 8 inches of rain expected today. Yuch!

When I was in the Varsity H.S marching band, we participated in the parade a year. It was such a neat experience. I played 1st chair B flat clarinet. Ahhhhhhhh the memories.
