TORONTO - A Toronto nurse who is facing child pornography charges has worked closely with young people for more than 10 years, police said Tuesday.

The 33-year-old nurse was arrested Friday on his way to the Hospital for Sick Children, where he worked with cancer patients.

Police say he was a caregiver at a Toronto day-care centre in the 1990s.

He also volunteered at the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and was a volunteer with Scouts Canada since 1990.

The suspect worked at the in-patient oncology unit for almost two years but was fired after the allegations surfaced.

    Arrested Friday

He was arrested Friday just hours after police received a complaint from the hospital.

Police say they discovered child pornography during a raid on a man's home.

They also found snapshots of young hospital patients. Police say those pictures are not pornographic, but they can't rule out finding other photographs that are.

Police would not say how many pictures they found, but said they were downloaded and traded over the Internet.

Scott Faichnie was charged with two counts of possessing child pornography. He also faces charges of accessing and making child porn available.

Sick Kids has set up a hotline to answer families' concerns.

    It's operating from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 416-813-6500.

There will also be a private information session for parents on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the main auditorium of the hospital.

Child porn is probably more common than we think. A couple of days ago I was listening to a radio interview of a man who had worked with Interpol - the multinational organization that attempts to stop child porn and prostitution. Some of his statistics were alarming-- most missing children end up in international child porn and prostituion trade.

The small timers, like the nurse in the article, usually never get caught.

oh I cannot possibly say what I think w/o violating TOS. I just wish his "personals" could be removed inhumanely. Child abuse/porn make me angrier than any other crime can.
