Tooting

  1. We recently had a couple people in our unit written up for farting at the nurses station. So here's the question: Where is the best place to fart at work if you can't get to the bathroom right away? Can't wai to read the replies!

    OMG...you are kidding, right?

If you can't hold it, you can't hold it. I mean seriously, how can you PREDICTABLY toot?

Ok...it's late and I'm studying for my Chemistry...I just thought of a new song...remember that Kenny Roger's song from "The Gambler"? Here is my suggestion for new lyrics...

"You have to know when to blow 'em, know when to hold'em...know when to walk away...know when to run. You never count on silence, when you're sittin' at the table. The'll be time enough for tootin', once the job is done."

Written up, as in formally reprimanded for.....flatulence??

Unless there was a contest going on amongst staff with no work to do, complete with referee, it's hard to picture this as a complaint worthy of managerial intervention. Really.

It's hard to believe that an adult without a medical problem cannot seriously control this problem.

Getting written up for tooting is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

Sometimes it just happens...it can depend on what you eat, stress, activity...sometimes there is no logical cause...it just happens. I'm not saying you should stand there proudly farting your little heart out, but if one sneaks out now and then, oh well!

It seems pretty over the top to be written up for farting...maybe they should be told that people are finding it offensive and that they need to modify their diet or take something for it, but a write up? Wow...

good grief. Seems to me that mgt would have better things to do, like improving pt to staff ratios, work enviroment, etc. Sometimes they slip out and you can not help it.

If you say so. I have IBS so I know all about GI distress and still I manage to control those urges, but everyone's body is different.

As far as it being over the top to be written up, I wouldn't necessarily say so. Farting at the nurses' station is to say the least rude and unprofessional but what are the circumstances in this case? Are these people who accidentally let one slip and who were embarassed and apologetic? Or are these a couple of folks who proudly let 'em rip, laughing and defiant? Are they repeat offenders?
