Today's Trauma

  1. Kids have been sick with colds for a month. Hubby sick with stomach thing this weekend. Daughter #2 wakes up this morning, temp 99.7, stomach hurts. Stays home from school. I get a frantic call at work from hubby about 10:45 a.m. Daughter passed out and smacked head against wall (right on the corner--straight back from a distance of about 3 feet); was unconscious for about 30 seconds. He had picked her up and carried her to the bed, completely dead-weight, totally out. Hubby is a basketcase on the phone. I fly home. Daughter has two-inch gaping laceration on back of head. We zoom to ER. Daughter looks horrible but is conscious and talking to me. Head hurts, throat hurts, back hurts, behind hurts. Temp 102 in ER. Doc stitches gaping wound in head. CT scan and X-rays done. CT scan reveals sinus infection and soft-tissue swelling (outside of the skull). XRay reveals fractured tailbone. This girl hit that wall hard! Culture (swab was bloody) shows strep throat. Sick kid!! Discharged to home; kid promptly throws up once in the door. Oh my word. Poor, poor kid. Hubby breaks up just talking about seeing her drop (he was behind the bathroom door trying to find Advil for her sore throat when she said "Dad, I feel dizzy!" In the time it took him to close the closet door so he could open the bathroom door, she was going out...)

My poor daughter and my poor husband. He says it was the worst sight of his life. When he called me on the phone, practically sobbing, I hear my daughter in the background going "It's OK, Daddy...It's going to be OK." He thought he lost her when she was unconscious for that 30 seconds...completely still and lifeless.

    Oh, the joys of parenthood.

You've got that right! The joys of parenthood are what keeps us parents on our ever loving tippy toes! I hope your daughter will be okay! So sorry to hear what happened to her. When it rains it pours, doesn't it! Poor baby! (((hugs)))

The number one thing about parenthood that they don't tell us is that we'll have to parent the hubby as well..........

What a horrible day for you--now if you can just keep from getting this while you're taking care of everyone else!!! Sounds like it belongs in an episode of ER!!!

For those of us without children, reading threads like this are a fantastic form of birth control

But seriously, I hope you daughter (and hubby) both feel much better soon. Please keep us posted!

Poor mom, good thing mom is nurse, no hysterics just take control. Let us know how she is feeling today, how mom and dad are feeling. Those fractured tail bones can be sore for a long time in adults but maybe a child will heal fast. She must have had a pretty good concusion.

Just found this thread Zee, how's everything going? Lots of hugs and prayers for you and your family today. It's no fun when everything happens at once like that. Take care of yourself.
