This Summer

  1. as you are probably aware our weather comes in cycles - if we here down under experience a hot summer then you can expect a hot one this year as well. with that in mind here is a little taste of what our summer has been like

you know you're in queensland when......

    1. the best parking space is determined by shade, not distance.

    2. hot water comes out of both taps.

3 . you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

    4. the temperature drops below 35c (mid 90's old scale) and you feel a little chilly.

    5. you discover that in february it only takes two fingers to steer your car.

    6. you discover that you can get badly sunburned through your car window even on a very short trip.

    7. you develop a fear of metal car door handles.

    8. you break into a sweat the instant you step outside your house in the morning.

    9. your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "what if i get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

    10. you realise that asphalt has a liquid state.

    11. farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to prevent them from laying hard-boiled eggs.

    12. the cows are giving evaporated milk.

    13. the trees are whistling for the dogs.

    14. while walking back barefoot to your car from the beach, you do a tightrope act on the white lines in the car park.

    15. you catch a cold from having the aircon full blast while you sleep during the night.

    16. you pray that your train/bus will have air-conditioning, and if it doesn't, waiting an extra 15 minutes for one is worth it.

    17. you'd rather be at work in the airconditioning than anywhere else in the world.

    18. if you have no airconditioning at work, you take an unpaid day off to stay home in the airconditioning.

    19. the thought that you have no airconditioning at work or at home reduces you to tears.

    20. you're tears evaporate before they hit your cheeks.

hahaha! Sounds like what my uncle used to say about living in Arizona here in the states. He said if you didn't have a garage you had to wear gloves when you drove or you'd burn your hands on the wheel! So in hundred degree temps, there were people driving around with gloves on!

You don't need to tell me about hot summers here in Florida. And not having air conditioning anywhere is barbaric and inhumane.

Forgot to add to that list: When you're a firm believer that whoever invented black vinyl seats in cars should be shot.

Yes, no AC in Florida is inhumane! I've been there a few times and it's a lot hotter than NY, but even worse it's just as humid as it is here. UGH! I hate the humidity the most. Tweety, is it humid all the time like that? Or is it just that I've had the misfortune of going at the wrong times? I do however, remember Florida having the wonderful smell of honeysuckle combined with peppers...weird huh? :chuckle

Yep pretty much humid all year long. Which ironically can make it seem colder than it actually is in the winter. We've had a fairly muggy winter this year. But heat and humidity is the price we pay for warm winters. The last two Sunday's I've taken the dog to the park in shorts and t-shirt. Not bad for February, eh?

That is awesome for February!! We have had some pretty nice weather these past few days (in the 50s!!!!) but with the way the NY winter has been this year, even if I had a dog and was brave enough to take him to the park...his paws would freeze to the ground halfway there and I'd hate to think what would happen if he lifted his leg! :chuckle
