There is a fake Pay Pal e-mail going around

  1. I got an e-mail that look 100% like it came from Pay Pal. It stated that a Rolex that I purchased had been charged to my Pay Pal account and if I was disputing it to follow the link. I knew I couldn't afford a Rolex but the e-mail was to me and to the correct address. I went to my Pay Pal account myself and logged in and there was no such charge (Thank God). I then went back to the e-mail to see where the link took me and surprise surprise they asked for my user ID and password. I typed in a not so nice message instead and then forwarded the e-mail to spoof@paypal.com. If you use Pay Pal beward if you get an e-mail from them. It would be fake. They never ask you for your identification unless you log directly into pay pal yourself. I changed my password just as a safely measure. Just wanted everyone to be aware.

Good idea to the change your password. I get email from paypal nearly every day and I always delete it. I've never had a problem with paypal and have been a member for five years, but I always delete email because it's all a scam to get your account number and rip you off.

Ditto. Been getting an email a day or so. It took me opening the link, and opening the real paypal to figure out it was a scam. -Andrea

(I haven't had a problem with Paypal either.)

Lately I've been receiving a spoof e-mail saying that my Ebay account would be deleted if I didn't update my account information.

Crazy idiots....they're not getting my bank account & credit card # that easily. (and if they did, they would be seriously disappointed!!!)

Do be aware of something though. I had a pay pal account. One day a seller called me and asked me if I lived in NY or Ohio as there was a different address for me in Ohio paying for it but the item was to be shipped to NY. The seller had access to tools and searches etc. Well to make a long story short someone hacked into my pay pal account and changed the delivery address to NY, oh yes but I would have paid the bill.

Funny thing was the seller quickly got her name and told me. I looked her up on the net in about 1 minute and called her. She was shocked you could tell. She was reported to ebay and pay pal and banned.

Just so you know pay pal is not as secure as one might think.

I've gotten this one too - I always say, if someone steals my wallet, they're more than welcome to my two bucks and thousands in credit card debt!

renerian: I agree. NO SECURED SITE IS 100% HACK-PROOF! You take your chances, but then again, you take your chances walking out of your house. You never know what thud is out to steal...online or anywhere.

I know this an older thread, but I got the Paypal E-Mail yresterday asking for my password etc. The weird thing is right next to it a pop-up came and said Paypal would never ask for these things. Of course I didn't buy into it. But it is scary.....
