The secret to a supple body?

  1. I just got off the phone from my Grandfather and I just realised something. For a man who is pushing 87 years of age - he's remarkably fit and active. Gets around everywhere on his own and is in good shape.

    I am reminded of a reason why from an uncle of mine. According to him, the secret to a healthy body is Pranayam and Surya Namaskar.

    I breathe through both nostrils at the same time.

    Those exercises are the stretches I do after a workout at Curves. They are on the wall over the stretch out area. I do feel good after the workout and the stretching.

    But, I've also had four children and I'm not sure there is anything you can do about that. :chuckle

    Your grandpa is a MAN, afterall.

    My mother and father-in-law are also in great shape. My fil is 81 and still works on his tractor doing farmwork and also has a AI business (artificial insemination of cows). Very active, both of them. Not overweight either. Mil has a beautiful garden.

    I think the answer to a supple body and longevity is getting up at 4:30 a.m. to milk cows, raise sheep, till the ground and grow crops.

    Maybe just an active and interesting life . . .

    Steph, I agree. Nothing like getting back to our roots, back to nature, and back to the soil again to get back into synch with the body and mind.

    Roy, we do a lot of breathwork in yoga class. I haven't been for a couple of months, and need to get back. Maybe when I work days. But I did do some Sun Salultations yesterday. It's a great way to energize yourself.

    A few years back there was a lot of people talking about the life span of the people in the causcian [sp] mtns...these people were living past 100...there were many theories about why this was occuring...
    a. ate a lot of yogurt
    b. worked steadily all of their lives..nothing that would devastate the body just tending sheep and cattle...
    little outside entertainment,,they went to bed early, got up early..ate simple foods which kept them within weight bounds

    maybe there is something to be said for clean living

    [their nurses and mds are probably poor as church mice from having nothing to do]
